Tried El Potro, when my go-to Greek restaurant had closed early unexpectedly for the evening.

I got the Burrito De Pollo Fajita. Chicken was juicy and tender. Peppers were nice and fresh. Lots of warm queso cheese sauce on top. Came with black beans, which were very good. I also asked for a side of rice. The chips and salsa were very good as well. The salsa tasted authentic and had a nice level of flavor and spice.

I will definitely return to El Potro with friends and family as it has earned a spot on my go-to Mexican restaurants list!

First time to try them but it was late so we had our food order to go. We had an assortment of tacos and chimichangas, and they were good! The food was freshly cooked and prepared with care and the price was very reasonable. I just wish i had more of the pico de gallo in my food box as it was refreshing.
Highly recommended!

Absolutely amazing food, service, and environment.

Service started off with a nice welcome and being seated right away. Drink order was taking as we were being seated and Chips and salsa were brought out fresh. Salsa had amazing flavor and a little bit of heat. So delicious!

Prices were fair and food and plates were brought out hot and delicious. Margaritas were flavorful, nachos were plain but my kiddos loved them, meat for both the chimi and nachos were very flavorful, and drinks were filled as needed.

The kids were brought out a chocolate covered marshmallow for dessert after eating their food.

Highly highly recommend this place to anyone!

The food was good as were the prices. The chicken quesadillas were generously sized and my friend already wants to go back! I had the Carne Asada burrito which was great, and the chips were fresh, salsa was good. A little disappointed in the Margarita which tastes like a powdered base – but I did not confirm that and I drank it all anyway lol. Service was good. Not much ambiance, it’s in a storefront just east of McCausland on Manchester. Will definitely be going back to try several other favorites like Chili Verde and the Rellenos.

HIDDEN MEXICAN GEM IN STL

Ascetically speaking, this place will not blow you away with the decorations, but the food will!! They have plenty of TVs to watch local sporting events, and a full bar. Don’t let the outside appearance of used car dealerships deter you.

The service is fantastic, the food is fresh and comes out quick, the chips and salsa has a unique and great flavor.

The pastor tacos are fresh and tasty, as is the quesadillas. Get a margarita and they’ll top it off for you once you finish the first round.

This is a hidden spot where you have to know where to turn on Manchester. There’s an adjacent Hispanic grocery store.

Parking can sometimes be hard to find, but just be patient. If you go when they’re busy, finding a parking spot will be the longest wait you have….if you even have to wait.

Check this place out, they’re local and awesome.

I live near to the restaurant and usually door dash. It’s always delish. I love the El Potro fajitas. Through DoorDash – always fresh. In house, unbelievable.

David got to watch futbol. ⚽️

I didn’t get a shot of Dave’s shrimp chimichanga b/c it was murdered immediately.

Nicholas the owner is very sweet. 10/10 will dine in for the experience.

Excellent food at a bargain price. Nicolas was an excellent host (owner & cook).
I had the Mole Poblano. My wife had the chicken enchiladas rancheros. Both were served in ABUNDANT portions and very authentic tasting. The huge glass of lemonade was a pleasant surprise.

My wife wanted to try something different and got Tacos Handurenos, which was a very interesting and good specialty and the first time we’ve had Hispanic food with beets and mustard I was not as adventurous and just had a regular Chimichnga. Food portions were large. Nice atmosphere – would definitely return again.

AUTHENTIC Mexican and Central American Cuisine! We really enjoyed eating at El Potro. I tend to judge a Mexican place by the chips and salsa they serve you when you sit down and the salsa and chips here did NOT disappoint. The salsa was fresh made and chips had great flavor. We started with Margaritas and Mojitos which were delicious. They have many drink options and the Mexcal Margarita had a lovely smokey flavor to it. They have an extensive menu of authentic dishes and between three of us we sampled the Fajitas Mix, Camaron a La Diabla (Shrimp in Spicy Red Sauce) and Tacos (Chicken, Carne Asada and their Special Campechana (mix of a variety of proteins). We finished with the Churros which came with a side of Strawberry Ice Cream. The churros were warm and crispy. The service was wonderful. Looking forward to going back. There is also a Mercado attached to the restaurant that was closed by the time we arrived for dinner but looks like it had lots of authentic food items for your home.

Such a hidden gem in STL! The margaritas were outstanding. The service was excellent, the staff were all friendly and attentive. The bartender even came to our table to top off our glasses with the extras left from making our margaritas. The mole and verde sauces for the tamales and enchiladas were so flavorful. The prices are very reasonable.
