The appetizers were so unique and beautifully presented, showcasing the chef’s creativity and passion through unexpected flavor combinations, such as mint and lemon zest. The Zucchini Blossoms and Fig and Stracciatella Salad special were particular favorites at our table!
For our second course, we decided to try a few of the homemade pastas. The Fettuccine Bolognese was rich and flavorful, with a generous amount of ragù. The seasonal Squash Agnolotti accomplished the perfect balance of sweet and savory, making it an ideal fall dish. The quality and freshness of the ingredients truly elevated every plate — it’s clear the menu was thoughtfully curated around seasonal availability to maximize flavor and freshness.
For my entrée, I had the Dutch Country Chicken, which had a beautifully crisp outer skin while maintaining moistness inside. It was paired with a gravy that complimented its seasoning without being overbearing.
We finished our meal by sharing some of the house-made desserts. The Tiramisu was light and airy—easy to enjoy despite how full we were. But the Cheesecake quite literally ‘took the cake’. Paired with a caramel drizzle and topped with flaky salt, it was not overly sweet and had the ideal amount of crust. I would return for the cheesecake alone.
Overall, I highly recommend Isola. It offers a mature, thoughtfully developed menu that brings a distinctive approach to Italian classics, along with offering a selection of one-of-a-kind, seasonally tailored dishes. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with soft lighting and modern décor, evaluated by artwork depicting Italian streets and towns. I learned that one of the paintings portrays a town located near the head chef’s hometown, adding a personal and authentic touch. The open-kitchen concept, featuring a small bar with four seats overlooking one of the preparation stations, further enhances the dining experience by softening the divide between the kitchen and guests.
From the moment we arrived, the experience was pleasant. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and took the time to guide us through the evening. We began with appetizers of long-stem artichokes with mixed olives and a Brussels-sprouts salad, both beautifully presented and delicious.
For our mains, we ordered the Branzino with rainbow chard, tomatoes, and a lemon-thyme vinaigrette, and the ravioli stuffed with pumpkin and cheese topped with cremolato. We also enjoyed dumplings with tomatoes, mint, and cheese. You can also bring your own wine (BYOB). The food was excellent and the portions generous. The homemade pasta was light, cooked to perfection, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients.
The atmosphere is welcoming and stylish: the space is nicely done, with a trompe-l’œil mural that evokes Chef Ermelindo Firmani’s roots in Ascoli Piceno, Italy. We were able to enjoy good conversation without feeling rushed, and the pacing from appetizers to main dishes was just right.
I appreciated the possibility of speaking Italian with the owner, it would have been a lovely touch.
As an Italian myself, I am often reluctant to dine out at Italian restaurants, but I was pleasantly surprised. I genuinely enjoyed this meal. I especially loved the pumpkin ravioli (agnolotti). Though I was initially confused because the version I make at home is usually filled with meat, this one was different in the best way and truly delicious.
A heartfelt thank-you to my dear friend Jennifer and her husband for inviting me.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic, elevated Italian dining experience in Westfield.
