This place is indeed both a market and a cafe. The cafe was pretty empty on a weekday at 9am, but my oh my was the food good. I love me some good chilaquiles and was looking for some in the area. This place has so many food options I was struggling to pick what to order. Come here to eat and trust me you’ll love it. Then stop by the market to get a juice or some pan dulce. I’ll be making the drive from my house to come eat here soon

John’s Market on the corner of Valley & Vera in Eden Gardens, Solana Beach is our #1 go to now! They have a grocery store of fresh fruits, vegetables, pan rolls, fresh made tortillas, meats, fresh homemade chorizo with NO PRESERVATIVES, eggs, Mexican spices, creams and so much more! This is a new establishment opening in 2022. As another reviewer stated, skip Gelson’s, Von’s or Sprouts and give this traditional place a try. This is a family business. Mom, sister and brother John all work here and they are so nice and happy to help you. They also serve breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. Saturday mornings they make fresh carnitas starting at 4am. They start selling it at 7am and it’s sold out by noon! We ordered the shrimp and the breakfast burrito today and we were so happy we did. My BF told me this was the best burrito he has ever eaten. Not only that, we both only ate half because it’s so big! We now have another meal. We will no longer be frequenting Mexico Viejo. This grocery store and restaurant will be getting our business moving forward! Give them a try!

A hidden gem. These tacos were incredible. My favorite in the area for sure. The meat was tender and delicious. The red salads was spicy and flavorful. The tomatillo salsa was perfect. No frills spot but worth the visit.

HIDDEN GEM OF A TREASURE! Our favorite authentic Mexican food restaurant and convenience store in all San Diego – and that’s no exaggeration. We are from Mexico and can attest to the authenticity of their delicious homemade dishes. What makes them better is that it’s a small, family-run business, so every aspect of their operations is infused with painstaking levels of love and detail. Any time you want Mexican comfort food akin to what your grandma would’ve made for you, go to John’s market. You will be glad you did.

One of THE BEST AL PASTOR TACOS I have ever had. Fresh tortillas, great meat, and the most awesome spicy pineapple salsa. They sell their salsas in the market, awesome local spot in Solana.

I ordered takeout from here twice. It tastes like someone’s grandmother is making a recipe they’ve perfected over 50+ years. I don’t say this lightly – it is the best burrito in North County HANDS DOWN. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Drive yourself straight here. Unbelievably delicious.

Fantastic. Ate with family of 6 in the cafe adjacent to the market. No frills space, but so good. Got 3 mini burritos for the kids, CA burrito, and a Carne asada torta. Tortillas were fresh (not too greasy), the meat tender, ingredients combined so you got lots of flavors in each bite. Main menu burritos and tortas were big enough to share and already cut in half. Fast service.

I just ate the BEST street tacos I’ve ever had. Large portions of meat carved up then placed in fresh tortillas that were made by hand while I watched. And a choice of a great, actually hot, “hot” sauce. All at an amazing bargain price. Highly recommend that you seek this place out Saturdays from 3:00 until closing.

Buddy and I wanted breakfast burritos and randomly found this place off google maps. It’s amazing find. Very simple unassuming shop but incredibly nice people working (I believe it’s a family who runs the whole place) who went above and beyond, and very tasty burritos with large portions!
