I am writing to formally report a serious incident involving your security staff that occurred on Feb 21, 2026 at your establishment.
While on the premises, my friend was forcibly thrown to the ground by a member of your security team while simply walking past them. This action was completely unprovoked and constituted excessive and unjustified use of force against a non-threatening patron.
At the same time, I was being aggressively shoved by other attendees on the dance floor and felt unsafe. Rather than addressing the actual threatening behavior, your security staff instead used physical force against a peaceful individual. This response demonstrated a troubling lack of judgment and failure to protect guests.
This incident made me feel extremely unsafe in your establishment. It is deeply concerning that security personnel, whose role is to ensure patron safety, were instead the source of harm. The behavior I witnessed was unacceptable and raises serious concerns about your staff’s training, supervision, and accountability.
I request that you:
1. Conduct a full investigation into this incident
2. Review any available security footage
3. Identify the security staff member involved
4. Provide a written response outlining the actions you will take to ensure this does not happen again
I would appreciate a prompt response. Incidents like this damage trust and create an unsafe environment for your patrons.

Fun, unique spot, giving everything you would want out of a basement bar with live music. Drink and cocktail selection is great, with a lot of variety and fair pricing. Many different nooks and areas to settle depending on what you are wanting to experience.

This bar has such a cool vibe. The bouncer was nice and the line wasn’t that bad for a Saturday night. He also let you in with the people you came with so you won’t have 1 person stuck outside by themselves or anything. The bartenders were prompt and quick but not necessarily friendly or chatty. The worst part is that the women’s bathroom is a single bathroom (yikes…always a line) and there aren’t very many places to sit. The live music was nice. Not a bad place to hang out by any means but Ann Arbor definitely has cooler spots.

Mash offers a pretty solid bar-going experience in Ann Arbor. A group of us stopped by recently after a night downtown, looking to find somewhere we could grab a drink and catch up. Mash fit the bill (pun intended hah) and did the job just fine.
The drink menu is pretty expansive, both as far as liquor selection and cocktails as well. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that they have a few standard mocktails that they’re known for! I tried the raspberry mock mule, and I’m happy to report that it’s a hit. Great flavor and super refreshing, plus it offers a fun drink even if you’re not drinking. The bartender was super nice and helped break down all the options as well.
The crowd at mash is more collegiate than I was expecting — I thought a whiskey inspired bar would driver an older crowd, but the bar was packed with early 20-somethings on a Saturday night. If you show up past 9pm on the weekend, there’s a good chance you won’t find a seat and will have to wait 20 minutes to get through the line at the bar, but Mash serves as a great place to meet up with the crew. As we were leaving around 11, we spotted a huge line out the door trying to get in too; it seems like the collegiate clientele have really designated Mqsh as the place to be on a weekend night!
Overall, I’d recommend Mash — I’m looking forward to going back and trying out more of their menu!

In basement, with an authentic dive bar vibe. Good band playing covers when I was there. Small, but active dance floor. Some interesting craft beers. Order at the bar. Presume you can order food from Pretsel Bell upstairs. I didn’t check the bathrooms.
