Molasses Grill is to die for y’all. Everything from the service to atmosphere to food was beyond top notch. We went on a Thursday and thankfully they were not insanely busy and had a table. Reservations are recommend.
As soon as we were seated we had a server that took the best care of us. We placed our drink orders, I had the Persephone(think spicy Pomegranate) and he had a pilsner out of Danville. We almost never get an appetizer but got the Hickory Oysters which were absolutely amazing with Tabasco and Shallot butter. The lemon sprinkled on top added to the best flavor. I am not an oyster person but these were so good.
For our entrees I had the sweet potato gnocchi. All of the ingredients made a perfect pairing. The gnocchi was pillowy soft and the pearl onions, collard greens, butternut squash, toasted pecans, and goat cheese just added to the wonderful flavor.
He had the ribeye(medium) with green beans and the scalloped potatoes. The steak was like butter melting in your mouth. The potatoes were sliced thin and stacked with the perfect amount of cheese and butter and the green beans were perfectly cooked, crisp and flavorful. I have to say I have not had a meal that was this good in such a long time. We will definitely be recommending Molasses Grill to our friends and family and returning for another visit.

Fantastic dinner, second visit after two year absence! Great service provided by Myles. Tried the specials onion soup and fried flounder. Also tried grilled oysters and pork chop from menu. All very good. Chef Steve stopped by to check on us. Generous portions so took coconut cake togo. Highly recommended!

We’ve driven by this place in the way to visit my parents for 20 years. I’ve always heard great things. Pictures looked wonderful but we could never make it work.
We finally made it last minute on the drive to Lynchburg from Durham and will definitely be back.
The interior is warm and inviting. Casual elegance (is that even a term? )
Menu had a nice selection without being overwhelming and i think this allows them to do what they do well.

This is a wonderful place to eat. The atmosphere was great, the food was phenomenal… I highly recommend the calamari. Two thumbs waaay up on that. The main course was great and we went all out and got dessert as well. The cheesecake and the coconut cake were just as good as anything else we had. Zero complaints.
But the absolute best part of our dining experience was our waitress. Huge shout out to Christina for being a true professional. She was probably the best waitress I’ve ever had. She was always on point with any and everything we asked her for. Even down to which beers to get and how each one would pair with our dinner. Absolutely one of the best in her profession! So if you have read this and you want the absolute best experience there… just ask for Christina and I promise you, she will not let you down!

My family and I went here last night for a birthday dinner. The food was amazing, the calamari was the best I have ever had. Its worth going back just for that. Everything from the salmon to the ribeye, and the linguine was superb. The desserts are also top tier. Sabrina our waitress was so sweet an attentive. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. The place itself is beautiful. I recommend calling ahead for reservations. My family and I will definitely be returning guest.

The food was extraordinary and service superb. Full house tonight, so a bit on the noisy side, but had a delightful experience overall. The calamari appetizer was the best I have ever had, and I have tried a lot! Highly recommend the sweet potato crusted salmon. Unusual and great.

Loved the location. I ordered the salmon and it was amazing. The sauce was great. We also ordered the ribeye and it was great and cooked perfectly. The service was great as well. Only issue is that the place is very old and needs a renovation. Even if they went for the rustic old look, it doesn’t sit well.

My family came to south Boston for a funeral but it also happened to be 3 birthdays in the family that same weekend. I overheard another guest in the hotel talking about what a gem this restaurant was. I was able to make a reservation for the same night. They did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the staff was super patient with our large group and they were able to accommodate us in a private room.
I will definitely return.

Wonderful restaurant in a quaint town…a real hidden gem in South Virginia. We went with another couple and here’s what we ordered; Halibut (delicious), rib eye steak (melts in your mouth), crab cakes (very tasty) and the bourbon chicken (tender & flavorful). Of course their desserts were marvellous!
The wait-staff was very attentive and we’ll be back again.

Molasses Grill is by far the best restaurant for miles and miles. The food is always spectacular and the service is great. I have been several times and am never disappointed. The calamari as a starter is a family favorite, but I also really like the fall brussel sprouts and summer tomato salad. The entrees are seasonal, fresh, unique and thoughtfully plated. They also have a nice selection of cocktails and desserts.
