I absolutely recommend the Red Horse restaurant located at the Bernards Inn in Bernardsville. We attended a 60th birthday party with twenty people in one of the closed dinning rooms. The brunch is really outstanding. The chef made sure to come out and check up on all the food that was being served and talked with the guests as well. For appetizers we had the popovers ( crumbbread muffins ) and the really popular Clothesline bacon made with black pepper maple glaze with pickle & lemon. The Tin Can Cinnamon Rolls were a special surprise with maple butter. We also had the Ceasar salad with some avocado thrown in for good measure. I had the Korean Fried Chicken & Waffles with Gochujang and a fried egg that was yummy!! My wife had the Banana Blueberry Pancakes that she gave a big thumbs up to, and a friend of ours loved the vegetable Soft Scramble that consists of Burata, grilled sourdough and Shoestring Fries. For dessert we all indulged in the delectable Tiny Dancer: Triple chocolate mousse cake with toasted almonds, Grand Marnier carmel, raspberry and whipped cream. A real winner with that desert . For drinks most of the girls were loving the Espresso Martini’s. We need to go back and try out the rest of the menu items including the Sushi. The Inn itself was decorated beautifully. So much to see in this awesome establishment. Get to the Bernards Inn as soon as you can.

The Good , Bad and Pretty~
I had a feeling that we were in trouble when we were checking in, and a young lady asked if we wanted to check our coats ( yes we did ) , she walked off and never came back( was she a ghost ?) also people that were leaving as we came in were complaining about the service. The service was very slow… our young waiter was very busy , he rarely appeared at the table …and apparently other tables were served rolls before dinner … we were not and that would have been nice for the under 10 “ crowd “ .
The oysters with crabmeat were incredible.
The lobster pouches were fantastic . All the appetizers were delicious .
The turkey was average tasting , but very surprising was that the very small and unappealing piece of turkey with thin small slices of dark meat under it . There was a small amount of dressing and about 3 teaspoons of cranberry sauce and some stuffing wrapped in thin phlio pocket (see pictures below). I usually don’t order turkey on Thanksgiving , and this turkey was a let down, l wish l had gone with the fillet.
The fillet and scallops were good. After waiting almost a half a hour for dessert, the pecan pie slice was cold… it would have been nice if it was heated up . The young “ crowd “ loved the cake pops and cotton candy, as it was a fun dessert. The total check was over $1,000 for 4 adults and two children. Definitely not worth it for the small portions of food and slow service .
My husband used the men’s room and said it was disturbing. There were no paper towels and rolls of toilet paper were at the sink area to be used in place of paper towels. The owner was walking table to table all night asking if we were enjoying our dinners , perhaps he should have checked out the restrooms as they were definitely not up to standards …
Ending on a positive note , the decor is pretty . Since we owned several horses and my daughter was a show jumper for many years we loved the horse paintings and bit wallpaper in hot pink .

Having been to David Burke Tavern in the city I was very excited to try Red Horse by David Burke.. especially since it’s in my proverbial back yard!!! So glad I tried! David Burke is definitely becoming my go to celeb chef restaurants to go to. The clothesline bacon is a showstopper and it was outstanding. Thick and fatty and perfectly coated with the sweet and peppery glaze!!! My 20oz. cowboy ribeye was perfectly cooked and was so tender and delicious!!! The sides were equally delicious. Truffle and Asiago fries were scrumptious. Crispy on the exterior, yet pillowy soft on the interior. Desserts were playful and sooo good. Besides the food the restaurant had prompt and courteous service and provided complimentary valet parking!! Red Horse will now be my go to for any sort of celebratory dinner going forward!!!

Our first time to the Red Horse Inn Bernardsville. For us, it was a 5 star deal with delightful servers, wonderful atmosphere and excellent food. This was a Thursday night and not as crazy as weekends are with live music. We could actually hear each other speak! I had 14 oz aged NY strip and hubby had braised short rib. Both of us were happy with the tab as well. Pricey, but not over the top.

Honestly for the money this might be a 3 star restaurant. We had a group of 5 for a holiday dinner and weren’t impressed. We had a table in the bar area which is just okay. They had one waitress for the 5 or 6 occupied tables and definitely felt a lag in ordering additional rounds of drinks. NY strips were pretty good and they were cooked well. The ribeye unfortunately was not a good cut and was disappointing. Sides were okay but skip the whipped potatoes they’re not worth it. The lobster dumplings were good but the other apps were average at best. Cocktails are decent.

The tuna tartar appetizer was delicious and beautifully presented. I truly can’t rave enough about the desserts every single one was exceptional. The presentation of the lollipop tree was such a fun and memorable touch, and the key lime pie was hands down the best I’ve had anywhere.

My clients were so impressed by both the food and the service, I left feeling confident that I had chosen the perfect spot. Honestly, I have yet to eat in the restaurant, but the bar is wonderful! The bartenders are professional and friendly (I learned what a tan espresso martini was!), and the cocktail menu has some brilliant drinks to enjoy. I’ve tried small bites like the truffle asiago fries and the tempura green beans, and they’re excellent! The parking lot is a bit small, and might fill up depending on the time of day, but so far, it hasn’t been an issue for early evening drinks. I’m so glad to have discovered this bar, and always look forward to going back.

Always a phenomenal experience at Red Horse! The menu has a great variety, there’s truly something for whatever you’re in the mood for. My favorite starters are the lobster dumplings and the tuna “poke” tartare. I couldn’t stop thinking about the poke all night after my last visit. The staff was very attentive, recommendations were spot on! I had a phenomenal cocktail made by Erin. Perfect for a special occasion or a relaxed girls’ night/date night. Would highly recommend! Can’t wait to go back!
