We stopped in on a Tuesday evening. We both got the brisket platter. The brisket was very good. We each had two sides and a piece of cornbread that came with the platter. Tyler, who is the owner and chef, waited on us. He brought 3 different bottles of homemade BBQ sauce to our table. We liked the small town feel of this little diner on the main street in town. Very casual, very comfortable. Tyler was very attentive and checked on us a few times during our meal. He even told us his story about culinary school.

For Hamburg BBQ, it is pretty great. Service was top notch, but a little cold in the seating area. However, I would not compare the food completely to Texas BBQ. Texas BBQ historically is heavy on black pepper/brown sugar rubs – at least in my experience around Dallas/FW and Houston. I did not get much of seasoning flavor out of the brisket or ribs, but the smokiness was there. Good smoke ring on everything, but the brisket was a bit overcooked by the time I got it for lunch. It is not an easy task to keep brisket at a “ready to carve” state in restaurants, and it was slow, so I get it. It still tasted great! The jalapeño cheese sausage is essentially like candy and the closest thing to Texas BBQ on the menu from a taste standpoint, with the ribs being a close second. The sides were homemade and delightful. We left full and took food to go. I would go back and would love to sample the freshly rested brisket as well as the wings. I think this restaurant will grow into something great once the area realizes there is more to BBQ than the hockey puck hamburgers and charred hot dogs they cook at home!

Amazing food! happened to stop here on our way to the Renaissance Faire. Would recommend to anyone. The cornbread (moist!), collard greens (great flavor!) and the Mac and cheese (amazing cheese!) were fantastic. So were the quesadillas, but those three stood out.

I totally enjoyed this place itbwas our first time there. The waitress was very nice an made us feel like we were at home. The food was amazing we had the brisket, catfish, pulled pork an chicken it was all very very good. I can’t wait to go back. Do yourself a favor an stop if you like smoked meats. You will thank me. It’s a 40nmin drive for us but we’ll worth every minute of the drive to get there.

This place is a must! Truckers need to walk up from the Rudder and cars ca drive but it is worth a trip.
The food was outstandingly great and served in healthy portions, for a good price.
I got the brisket plate with Mac and cheese coleslaw and an extra side of loaded mash potatoes (cheese and bacon) the corn bread was the best I had in a long time.

We found Backwoods when we searched Google for a local place near Cabela’s. And, it was AWESOME! Ms. Beverly took great care of us and we enjoyed a chicken cheesesteak and a brisket cheesesteak. If I lived in Hamburg, I’d weigh 300 pounds!!!

We went here on a whim and boy was it good. The cornbread was sooooo good, not dry like a brick. We shared a pickle chip appetizer which was nice and had a good crunch. I had the turkey and jalapeño cheddar sausage with potato salad and macaroni salad. My wife had a half rack of ribs. This was definitely a spot I was glad to drive to. A mother and son operation deserves more recognition than my simple words. Go check it out for yourself.

Stopped in for lunch in NYE, what a pleasant surprise. I had the brisket and it was amazing. They make their own BBQ sauce as well and it was so good I bought some to go. Owners mom was working and was very friendly and engaging. We will definitely go back!

I’ll first start with the service, which was good. The staff seemed friendly, and the food came out quickly. The food, unfortunately, which was 2 cheesesteaks, was dog food…. It smelled and tasted like dog food. I’m not sure if my dog would even eat it. The cheesesteak was bland, and the cheese was tasteless. They most likely used a low-quality, watered-down store-bought sauce. I recommend Rao’s or even a sauce without water if they’re going to use store-bought. Then they charged me $40 for 2 cheesesteaks, even though they had a sign that cheesesteaks were $10 on Wednesdays. Would not return unless the food is improved and discounts are honored.
