La Purepecha Cocina Mexicana in Santa Monica is a hidden gem with super friendly staff who make you feel welcome right away. Loved the complimentary chips and salsa — fresh, crunchy and full of flavor! I tried the California burrito; flavors were on point but I do wish the fries inside had been crispier and the wrap a bit easier to hold. Portions are generous, prices fair, and I appreciate that they even have a clean restroom for customers.

I ordered the California burrito with chicken, and overall, it was just okay. There wasn’t anything particularly special about it. The chicken and fries inside were good, but the burrito itself tasted a bit dry. One thing that bothered me was that all the guacamole ended up in one part of the burrito, so most bites didn’t have any, and then one bite had way too much. It would been better if it was spread out more evenly. Tortilla is good, probably the only thing I really liked about that burrito.
The burrito also comes with chips and salsa. The chips were pretty standard, nothing amazing, but I do appreciate that they include them as a side, not every restaurant do that.
As for the restaurant itself, it didn’t really impress me. The interior isn’t very cozy or inviting. There are some tables and a few TVs, but it feels more like a place to grab a quick bite and leave rather than somewhere you would want to sit and relax. It’s more functional than comfortable. There is a restroom available, but I didn’t use it, so I can’t comment on its condition.
Overall, it’s an okay spot for a quick meal, but not somewhere I’d go out of my way to visit again. Maybe other menu items are much better, I don’t know.

We looked up best fish taco and seeing this spots pictures and video of fresh made tortillas, we had to come. The staff were friendly and attentive. She was actually making fresh corn tortillas when we walked in. It is small for dine in but it was only 2 of us. We ordered a fish and shrimp taco, they were excellently cooked well. Fresh salsa, fresh fish that was grilled and not batted was a % for us!!! The food was ready promptly and left us wanting more. We will definitely be returning for our next trip.

Best authentic Mexican food on the west side!! Nothing compares. Homemade tortillas and the carne asada is super tender and juicy and not fatty. Great agua frescas too. I’ve been here a handful of times and it’s consistently good. I highly recommend!

Authentic Mexican cuisine. Construction workers come and go with to-go orders.
The place is quite small, 4-5 small tables. Orders are taken by the cashier, and then you sit down. Once seated you will be treated with a small tray of homemade totopos (chips) and sauce.
The waiter will bring the plates for you. All dishes are served on paper plates or trays.
They offer discounts on plates everyday, check the menu!!

Chips and salsa on the table were great.
Rice could have been more steamy.
This is a super location, my group walked from the pier. There is a lot of opportunities for this business.
