My friend and I went here Thursday night and we asked for recommendations by our server. It was a good call.

First & foremost, as a highlighted menu item, their Tonkotsu Ramen was probably the best I’ve ever had. (I went with medium spice.)

Generous portions – I didn’t finish my bowl at dinner, but even as leftovers, it was still sooo good the next morning.

Second, their Rolls Royce sushi roll that she recommended was extremely good, too!

We will be back again. Too good to forget.

Made a stop here as a dinner date. My man and I shared the Katsu Curry plate and a Sushi Boat and fried Tofu as an appetizer. The tofu was underwhelming but the Curry and Sushi was great! The service here was outstanding with fast seating and frequent checking. The price was a little high (about $70 for those 3 items), but we both agreed the quality of food was justifiable. Would come back!

Came to try the Tonkotsu Ramen (Medium Spice Level). I asked for extra noodles ($6) and extra Chashu ($4) which came out to ~$27. The ramen was really good, the broth was flavorful, and the Chashu was perfectly tender. Quick and attentive service as well.

This review is only about the service, not about the food. I arrived at Shobu a little after 12:30 pm, the lunch rush, if there was any, was long gone, there were a handful of occupied tables, and noone at the counter. Within a few minutes a middle aged possibly Japanese lady appeared. I asked if I could place a “to go’ order. I then asked how long the wait was likely to be. Rather irritatedly she said ‘It depends what you order’. Fair enough, but… Most hostesses/waiters know how busy the restaurant is, sometimes even how many dishes need to be cooked before yours, and how long your dishes will take to cook.
I looked at the menu on Google Maps and asked for chicken teriyaki. She looked at me like I was speaking Chinese. I showed her the listing on Google and she said ‘OH, teriyaki chicken.’ I said ‘Yes.’ she said ‘You want teriyaki chicken with rice?’ Actually I did not want teriyaki chicken with rice as I have low carb. rice at home that I preferred to use. I said ‘Ok.’ She scolded me, “You need to tell me the whole name of the dish. OK. I then tried to order beef katsudon, again I had apparently lapsed into Cantonese. I showed her the name of the dish on Google Maps. She got mad, picked up a paper menu and told me that I needed to use their paper menu. Normally the first thing a waiter does is hand you a menu, often before guiding you to a table, and surely if you are placing a to go order. But not Mz Shobu. I told her to cancel the whole order and I left.
The Japanese are renowned for their politeness, but Shobu must be the exception that proves the rule.
Shobu Japanese : NOT Recommended.

We went here after an unsuccessful trip to imperial gardens right across the way. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and I will definitely be making Shobu one of my routine stops for Japanese food. Even if you’re not big on sushi, their rice bowls and chicken katsu are definitely a must try. Will definitely be back!

Lived in fresno for years and this is the first time I’ve ever been here! It was incredible. The food was so wonderful and delicious. However, service wasn’t GREAT… took about 10 min for us to get seated even though there was room for just us two.. and the waiters took forever to get our order and then bring the food… either way, I would absolutely eat there again because the food was amazing.

Great place, the food was great phenomenally flavorful. Server was outstanding. Loved the new York steak roll, the sexy mama roll was tender smooth and full of flavor, the lobster teriyaki steak was the best dish there that I tried. Nice and mild spice very flavorful great texture amazing taste!!! Highly recommended. Pricing wasn’t so bad. I went during lunch and it wasn’t busy no wait no line quick service. Will go try more dishes flavor.

Took my friend for some sushi, ramen and more.

The calamari is different from others. It’s long sticks that are breaded. Should be bite size in my opinion. Harder to enjoy. Bland, no flavor including the dipping sauce.

We got 3 rolls: Player, Rolls Royce and Bulldog. The Bulldog was really good. Rolls Royce was ok. Player isn’t my thing because it was flamed. To each their own.

Ramen was good. Tastes better than expected. The special seaweed salad was good. Loved it. Spicy edamame was good too.

Would definitely go back. Just recommend making reservations unless you’re ok waiting 20 minutes or so. That’s what happened with us. But staff was super friendly.

What a delightful little sushi haven! I wholeheartedly recommend diving into the ramen—oh, that broth! Rich and bursting with flavor, it feels like a warm hug in a bowl, and the portions are generously comforting.

I indulged in the baked salmon roll and found myself wishing for a never-ending supply—it was that scrumptious! The service had a leisurely pace, but trust me, every minute was worth it. The sushi chef is a true magician, crafting rolls that are not just tasty but also infused with a sprinkle of kindness. If you’re craving sushi, this spot is a whimsical treasure waiting to be uncovered!
