My friend and I visited this place seeing as he had the taste for a fried pork chop. While I had never been, we decided to give them a shot. Upon entering the restaurant it was very clean. The lady who took our order was more than nice she also gave recommendations. Seeing as we both ordered pork chops, they were cooked to order. I will say the sides are buffet style as well as some of the main courses. The service was quick, and the food was solid. In terms of soul food there are better choices in the city. However, this is still a solid choice. I would like to note that there is a banquet hall attached to which was very nice. Seems like they just recently had a wedding.

I ordered online but didn’t read the reviews prior to which is my fault. Soul food with no soul in the building is a no for me. Sweet potato pie was so light I think they forgot to bake it. Collards are definitely out of a can. I’m just going to leave it there. Never again. Sticking to Nana’s

Don’t waste your money…we ordered 3 plates and the beat thing was the cornbread! Fried chicken was decent, but the fried pork chops were barely breaded and all of the sides appeared to be from a can!

The food is nasty. Ordered beef stew over rice with collard greens on the side. Their collard greens have the hard stems in them and taste like extremely salty vinegar, wasn’t cooked with a meat in the pot AT ALL. Boiled in a pot of vinegar then drenched in salt.
The beef stew wasn’t even a stew. It was dry. There was no sauce, no stew, nothing. Just beef, rice, and potatoes. The beef itself was also DRY!
I don’t recommend. It’s not REAL soul food

Very surprising, but this place is great! The fried chicken was awesome, cooked to order, very flavorful, crispy, and HOT! The sides are a hit, the hubs love the green beans, he still talks about it. The yams were delicious, mashed potatoes were the right texture. I just say enough about the food. We are definitely coming back to order more.

I decided to try this place after work because I had a taste for soul food and the pictures looked good… well I was unpleasantly surprised, the food is soulless food and the service was even worse. The young man behind the counter said nothing when I entered, the place was empty so it wasn’t busy, I said hello and smiled he gave me crickets, explained it was my first time there he said ‘ok’, turned his back and proceeded to talk to the young lady in the kitchen, I asked what the daily special was, an offering on the menu under premium protein 3 times before he answered like he was annoyed and barely audible read what was on the menu never answering my question , his entire demeanor was he didn’t want to be bothered… now to the food i got flounder it was ehh, the greens were not great and the Mac n cheese was not good, the cornbread however was great. I also got a side of mashed potatoes with gravy, the gravy was flavorless and the mashed potatoes were salty. This place got me for $23 first and last time, the entire experience was awful, the food not very palatable I gave up on more than half of the meal maybe the trash will enjoy it..I should’ve read the reviews

Stopped in after work on a Wednesday at the North Tryon location it was not very busy. Two gentlemen at a table appeared to be a business meeting. Anyhoo I’m not in the habit of leaving negative reviews but it’s truly hard to find good “soul food” or southern cooking in Charlotte. The meatloaf was a thick cut, portion however I question if it was done saw several pink spots. The yams had a good flavor too stringy. Black eyed peas had too much pepper. Tea was okay. Sweet potato pie that’s a no.

I didn’t eat here but I have friends who absolutely love their food and it was busy when I went sooo all good signs.
They have a rental space attached, and it’s everything. They have different packages, but you can do an event, have them do the food (which they actually cook themselves), and serve and decorate for a decent price! Alexis gave me the tour and the whole pricing schpiel, and she was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I think they can definitely upgrade the professionalism by giving her a lil tablet or something besides a random piece of paper to show you pictured, the difference in packages and prices etc., then she can just email it right to you instead of the scrap paper. And a guy walked in on the venue side when he was trying to go into the restaurant, which was funny at the time, but might not be if you’re saying your vows.. I don’t know what they do to eliminate the confusion during your event, but I’m sure they have that covered because overall, it’s on point.

Sooo many things to say. Upon arrival we noticed that at lunchtime there was no one in the building aside from an employee and her small child, that was behind the counter. I will admit that I was skeptical about the food because the employee was Hispanic. I looked at the ServSafe certificates and noticed there didn’t appear to be ANY employees of blackness that work here. But I thought let me be open minded because I’ve had carribean food that was from an Asian owned place and it was good. Me and my husband ordered two 6 piece wing meals with two sides. It was 14 dollars each and came out to 32 dollars with tax. The chicken was then cooked by the same you lady that took our order. She was cold and didn’t act as if she even wanted to be there. The restaurant was freezing. No heat, no music no atmosphere at all. Totally uninviting. The food on the bar looked like canned cafeteria food. For this to be a soul food restaurant, it is lacking any soul at all. The chicken wasn’t bad but my Mac and cheese wasn’t good. This place needs help. Friendly employees, music, at least one black person so it is a believable soul food place, lower prices. This place is extremely overpriced for no reason besides they just are. The carrot cake is 7.50 for one slice. With Sol Delish down the street, spend the few dollars extra and go there. It’s just another place making money off of a culture without respecting that same culture.

I decided to stop over here out of pure curiosity after leaving Cava. The environment reminds me of every southern restaurant in SC as far as the set up. Extremely kind and welcoming. Affordable pricing as well. Now I made sure to read the reviews after I purchased my plates & ultimately found that a lot of the crowd is expecting something familiar and not a nod to a flavor that is extremely hard to find in Charlotte. It is not granny’s, aunties or your cousins plate so I do not recommend reviewing based on a home experience. I didn’t even eat my Cava bowl, this is something that needed to be eaten ASAP.

For a restaurant that is supporting a large audience with a specific taste, I will give them their flowers. Personally for me, with my dietary issues this place is perfect as a way to feel at my families home. My plate feels like a Sunday afternoon in SC after church.
