I really wanted to love this spot because the idea of a speakeasy always gets me excited I love that cozy, dim, intimate vibe where you can sip a cocktail and just unwind. But this one didn’t quite deliver that speakeasy feel for me.
The lighting wasn’t dim, the space didn’t feel cozy, and the atmosphere leaned more social bar than hidden lounge. The setup honestly felt like it could work better as an event space bright, open, and casual but not really that secret, low-lit ambiance that “speakeasy” promises.
Now, the cocktails? 10 out of 10. I had the #5 cocktail and it was so smooth, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. So credit where it’s due the drinks are the highlight here.
The vibe though was just a little too talkative and loud for what I expected. After dinner, you usually want a spot where you can relax, vibe with music, and let the night wind down not have to talk over conversation again.
I did notice other reviews mention live music, so I might give it another try when that’s happening. Maybe that’s when the space really shines. But for now, it just missed the speakeasy mark for me good drinks, just not the cozy after-dinner lounge I was hoping for.

I had a fantastic experience at this newly opened cocktail bar! The drinks were well-crafted, offering unique balances of flavors. The service was amazing and a special shoutout to Mason Bailey who went above and beyond to make the night more enjoyable with his attentive service. I would also like to acknowledge the security there as well for keeping it safe. The atmosphere gets only 4 stars as the bar could benefit from purse racks under tables. There was no where to put them so you had to keep your drink from sitting on top of your purse. It is a small detail, but would add to the overall comfort. That being said, I will definitely be back— this place is already a standout and I greatly appreciate how secure it is.

Very cool new bar – the spacing isn’t quite as intimate as The Marble Ring in terms of speakeasy vibes (not really Pogo’s fault, it’s a much larger location), but is still a very cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Drinks are tasty and in-line with typical Birmingham bar expectations (costs included), and staff are pretty engaging and committed to providing a welcoming and enjoyable experience.
I enjoyed checking it out shortly after go-live and looking forward to hitting it up again soon.

We stopped in on a Tuesday evening for drinks before dinner, and we really liked Pogo. Our server was very friendly and engaging, and he knew his stuff. Drinks were great, and the place wasn’t very busy so we had our choice of seats. It’s an elegant and comfy speakeasy vibe, and we will definitely visit again.

Atmosphere and vibe is awesome. Love the space and the live music was just the right touch. Service was a bit slow for a high end bar like this, super disappointing on that side of things. Prices are very high. Be ready to pay $15/ small serving of drink per person. Pricing and service need improvement, but hopefully with time things get better.

I love, love, love the vibe of POGO and the live music is so dope. I would to see a small charcuterie with a turkey or chicken option added to the menu. Now if you like to taste your liquor this is the place. I like my drinks fruity so I have to order off menu. Everyone else in my party likes a strong drink. The bar sells well, top shelf, wine and beers. Even when there’s a line outside you won’t wait long. The hosts at the door are making things move.

Has a cool unique vibe. Our group was told they do not serve drinks to anyone standing ant the bar and we must find a seat. We found seats And they were busy serving everyone at the bar. It was very confusing and we got up and left and went down the street.
Had a great evening in Birmingham and quickly found out that pogo was a no go!

Tucked beneath the Armour & Co. building and accessed via the Armour House brasserie, Pogo Cocktail Bar offers an elegant, speakeasy-style escape in downtown Birmingham. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere impresses—arched, stone-clad niches, velvet drapery, plush seating, and mood lighting that balances intimacy with polished opulence.

Atmospheres pleasant, feels like a college bar reaching for grandeur, middle to low-end bourbons as base for all mixers Rittenhouse, Makers, etc. Signature drinks feel overpriced and under poured. Most drinks that are standard fall short. Barback, arrogant is a polite way to put it. The waitress was very eager to make sure you had what you wanted, even though the supplies were extremely limited.
