My first time at Ayoka Cuisine on W. Patrick St., and I was completely impressed. I ordered the fried red snapper and jollof rice with added lamb, and every dish was satisfying, flavorful, and felt genuinely healthy. The snapper was perfectly cooked—flaky on the inside with a light crunch on the outside—and the spices were fresh and well balanced. The food was filling without being heavy, and everything tasted thoughtfully prepared. Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, and a wonderful place to try something new. Highly recommend—I’ll definitely be back.

Kind people, simple atmosphere and amazing food. A friend from the Ivory Coast brought me here to try the cuisine for the first time.
The garba is a great beginner dish, with a generous portion of blackened tuna steak, couscous, and vegetables. If you like strong ginger beer, you’ll enjoy their homemade ginger drinks. Five hours later, I’m still feeling full and satisfied.
The staff are very friendly and helpful… dont be afraid to ask questions if you’re a newbie like myself.

We were traveling through the Washington, D.C., area on the way to Vermont. We stopped for dinner at this small African restaurant (we had originally thought it was an Ethiopian restaurant, it is an African restaurant with a west African emphasis). The decor is simple and they play African tunes as background music. We ordered the grilled tilapia fish, pounded plantains, rice, and a special sauce. The fish, a fish’s head, was good. There are vegan options on the menu, but they are only available during the weekend (we were there on a weekday night). These service is friendly and definitely African. We were able to talk to our waiter about the cuisine and his background, he was from Ivory Coast.

The food was good, but the online ordering system was very confusing. I placed an order for pickup, but when I arrived, they had no record of it. I ended up waiting another 20 minutes for them to prepare the food.

This was my first time dining at this restaurant, and I had a pretty good experience overall! The gentleman at the cash register provided excellent customer service. He was super patient while I was figuring out my order and helped clarify the menu for me.
I went for the Yasa Chicken with rice and couldn’t resist adding some Puff Puff to my order. The Puff Puff was served piping hot, and I just had to take a bite right away—so delicious! The rice was cooked to perfection, and the caramelized onions and veggies really elevated the dish, giving it a wonderful flavor. Plus, the portion size was great for the price!
While I enjoyed most of my meal, I found the chicken a bit dry and hard, and it felt like it might have been reheated from the previous day. I was also hoping for a little more heat or spice in the dish. As a fan of authentic African food, I was surprised that this dish didn’t have any spicy kick or peppers.
All in all, I think this restaurant is definitely worth a visit, as there are some tasty options on the menu. I believe in giving a place at least two tries, so I’m looking forward to coming back and sampling another dish!

Yummy jollof rice with a wonderfully spiced and sauced chicken and a generous lunch portion. Started with Fataya – an empanada-like appetizer in fish, chicken or beef……so good! My guest had the fried snapper and he really enjoyed it!

Great food. Excellent work on menu presentation!!! Very smart way to balance price to food portion. However please change the ginger beer. I rate that a 1 out of 5 star. Maybe it was just that bottle I had. Authentic African ginger beer leaves a unique taste.
Overall great work with the food. I will be back!
