We elected to seat outside, Jessica our server, was very friendly and did a great job, We had the Veal parmigiana and Veal Milanese, both dishes were delicious and very generous portions. It was absolutely a great find and had wonderful time, very relaxing.
Friends of ours from New York suggested La Famiglia Italiana after they happened to stop by while looking for something “new” in the area. They were completely surprised and told us it was The Best Authentic Italian they have ever tasted!! Coming from an Italian New Yorker, who travels the world a lot, I knew my husband and I had to try it. So…
Last night we decided to spend “date night” at La Famiglia Italiana and it was AWESOME!! We ordered the Trip to Italy as an appetizer and had 2 bowls Pasta Fagioli Soup. Then I had their Chicken Cutlet Parmigiana and my husband ordered Frutto Del Mare with Fradiavolo. (You can choose from a variety of homemade sauces.) AMAZING TASTES!!! Everything was fresh and every dish had individual flavors. And we didn’t stop there! We tried ALL of their desserts. I have never liked Tiramisu because every place I have ordered it soaks the ladyfingers in liqueur; soggy with an alcohol burn… nasty. HOWEVER, Not the Case with Their Desserts!!! Their Tiramisu is my favorite!!! The way it is made is rich, flavorful and no liqueur; not soggy, no burn. The Toasted Almond (Tiramisu) is the Best!! We also had the 3 mini Cannolis and the homemade cheesecake with cherries. WOW! Just WOW!!!
Before you think we exploded from eating all that great food, we did bring most of it home. Why? Because their portions are ample and I know it’s going to make a great leftover lunch tomorrow!
We can’t wait to return with friends who aren’t in the “know” yet. It’s going to be a delicious surprise!!
The first red flag: Sunday at 1 PM, and the place is as empty, that says a lot about a restaurant.
We were Disappointed with the food quality and flavor, cleanliness of the utensils, glass cups and cloth napkins (you could smell they were old and were on the tables forever)
The Pasta Fagiolli Soup was very salty, you could the taste of the water they used, and it was awful.
The Bruschettas were good, but a small portion for the price.
The Bianca Pizza was good also, a little heavy and thick for my taste; but good.
We ordered two pastas, a Fettuccini A la Vodka with Chicken, and a Fettuccini Pasta Alfredo with Chicken, they were both lacking of seasoning, so we took them home to fix them.
The only things that we loved were the Homemade Cheesecake and our waitress; she was really nice.
La Famiglia Italian Restaurant in Sanford is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff made us feel right at home. Our server Jeremy was on his game, awesome service—very personable and professional, making sure every aspect of our dining experience was perfect.
But the true star of the evening was the food.
The Sicilian rice balls were perfection—crispy on the outside, and the filling was rich and flavorful. Every bite reminded me of my mom’s arancinis, capturing the authentic, homemade essence of Sicily. The spaghetti was cooked to al dente perfection, smothered in a sauce that was just the right balance of savory and tangy. It tasted like it had been simmering all day, full of love and tradition.
The bruschetta was another highlight, with fresh, vibrant tomatoes on perfectly toasted bread, topped with thin slices of Parmesan, and drizzled with just the right amount of balsamic. The addition of the Parmesan elevated each bite to a new level of deliciousness. And to top it all off, we enjoyed a few glasses to a bottle of Sangue de Giuda, and took a bottle home, a sweet and slightly sparkling wine that paired beautifully with the meal. It was the perfect way to end a delightful dinner.
La Famiglia isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a slice of Italy in Sanford. If you’re looking for authentic Italian cuisine with a welcoming atmosphere, this is the place to be. We’ll definitely be back!
