One of those meals you don’t forget
I don’t say this lightly: Indian Grill absolutely nailed it.
I’m someone who really pays attention to flavor, balance, and whether food feels like it was cooked with intention….. and this place delivered on all fronts. We ordered the Goat Biryani, Lamb Vindaloo, Paneer Butter Masala, fresh Naan, and a Mango Lassi, and honestly… everything tasted so freaking good it was hard to decide what to focus on first.
The Goat Biryani was deeply aromatic and layered…. not just “spicy,” but rich, warm, and comforting, the kind that tells you it wasn’t rushed. The Lamb Vindaloo had that bold, punchy flavor I look for, with real depth and heat that still stayed balanced. The Paneer Butter Masala was smooth, creamy, and indulgent without being heavy… pure comfort. The naan was fresh and soft, perfect for scooping up every last bit of sauce. And the mango lassi tied everything together beautifully.. refreshing, not overly sweet, and exactly what you want alongside a meal like this.
What really stood out to me is that every dish felt intentional. No shortcuts. No bland filler flavors. Just genuinely good food made with care.
Easily one of the best Indian meals I’ve had in Nanaimo and across AB/SK/ON/QC, and I’ll definitely be back. If you appreciate food that actually tastes like someone cares, this place is it.

Very good food. I tried the Lamb Vindaloo. I’ve only tasted lamb a couple times before and I can confidently say that was by far the best I’ve ever tasted. Very good service. Server was very patient, and attentive.

We had chole bhatoore, chicken curry rice bowl , chai , tomato soup. I will give chole bhatoore 10/10 it was sooooooooo goood. They gave the food within 10 mins and it was delicious . Masala Chai is really good if you love chai then you are going to like it alot. We were two people and we took 4 chai. They served chai soup chole bhatoore together they need to work on this. Overall great food. Must visit!

The food was fantastic. I like a bit of heat and found ordering “medium” was perfect for me. I was able to sample several foods and really enjoyed everything. The dessert gulab jamin was tasty but I admit I was a bit disappointed they used a microwave oven and made it hotter than I’d ever had before. Tasty though.

Service was excellent and food was out in less than 10 mins. Taste was very good, not spicy enough, asked for chillis but must have forgotten, no big deal. Naan was excellent. Would be nice to wash hands as eating design style is challenging after. Had chicken Kadhahi and aloo gobi. Would go back and recommend. Parking is on street. Masala chai could be stronger. Waitress was super polite , TV had cricket nice touch

The food was better than I have had in Vancouver Mainland. Uday, was so welcoming and polite and sweet and suggested the dishes. The Ras Malai was so good. Neat and clean place with a clean washroom to freshen up as well. Hope you can enjoy a meal sometime here if on the island. If you like Indian food. All the best Uday. Give him a raise. He is waiting and the cashier as well.

So good! Their naan is super fluffy and garlicky, probably the best I’ve had in BC so far. I asked them to make my food a little more spicy as I mistakenly asked for mild and they obliged with no questions asked. I appreciated that. The food is delicious. I also got the tandoori shrimp, which is really flavourful and I didn’t expect it to have salad and rice.

This gem on Milton Street is a must visit? It’s all about the food and the incredibly friendly service. 5/5 for both and truly delicious with great flavour in every dish we tried. Their chai delicious as well. The mushroom tikka and Malai chicken were fresh and flavourfull using REAL chicken and although I can’t remember the names of all the dishes we tried they were ALL delicious. The Indian Grill is celebrating one year in business on Milton and my ONLY suggestion would be to invest in some cosy decor. The tables and chairs are quite comfortable and the cleanliness is great. The atmosphere is somewhat stark and could benefit from some cosy touches however the food is SO good and the service SO friendly that the atmosphere is irrelevant .
