I would give this place six stars. The food is excellent! I would say hands down the best authentic Thai restaurant I have tried in Louisville. The steamed dumplings are the best I have ever had in my entire life. Every time we come here the food is consistently great.

My wife and I recently moved from Florida to Louisville and have explored quite a few restaurants. This hidden gem absolutely holds its own against the best Thai spots in Miami — both in food quality and service. It instantly became one of our favorite places in town.

From a Pavilion (Sala) to Home (Bahn).
“It’ll be at least a 45-minute wait” said the hostess at a nearby steakhouse from the Down Unda.
“Oh look, the dining room at the Thai restaurant is open now.”
Knew nothing about Bahn Thai (Formerly Sala Thai), no expectation was set as it has been mostly misses than hit for Thai restaurant exploration.
It was cold that evening, two soups kicked off the experience.
Tom Jued Woon Sen Gai- clear, savory broth with clear mungbean noodle is certain to thaw your soul.
Tom Yam Gai- clear (sometimes reddish) savory and sour broth with a spicy kick and hint of lemongrass/citrus to surely set your senses run wild.
Pla Pad Khing- Gingerly overloaded with crispy fried fish bedding under assortment of veggies, covered with deep flavored sauce.
Gaeng Panang Nuea- Beefy Curry Creamy Tasty. No other curry dishes at other Thai restaurants so far is this flavorful. The correct cut of beef was used and sliced properly.
Bahn Thai (formerly Sala Thai) prepares the most AUTHENTIC Thai dishes in Greater Louisville, so far. The dishes are rich in flavor and character.
Superb service.
Though the ownership and the name have changed, the same family still runs the show.
Skip Pad Thai and Basil Chicken (and no doubt they’re delicious here), but try different dish at every visit.
Highly Recommended.

Just had the sampler and it was amazing. I loved that they give you 3 different sauces, all amazing, especially the brown one for your chicken. I will be back soon to try more stuff. 2nd visit: Well I finally came back and tried the drunken noodles with beef and the cashew chicken, and let me tell you they were both absolutely amazing. I loved all the vegetables in the cashew chicken, and the sauce for both meals tasted fantastic. It looks like they are allowing dining in again, almost every table was taken.

The food was flavorful and not too spicy. The Ahaun Whaung sampler is a must. The tom kha gai soup had great coconut flavor. Pad thai noodles was good also. Overall a great place to get delicious Thai food.

Pretty authentic thai food. If you like spicy I’d recommend getting a 3 at least, if not a 4.
I’d recommend the beef salad and Tom Kha Gai (coconut chicken soup) or the drunken noodles!

We got the sampler platter, cashew chicken, and basil chicken. Food was delicious, the spring rolls in the platter were so crispy, probably the best spring rolls I’ve ever had. Best Thai food I’ve tried.

We have been coming here for years. The food is always amazing. Service is great. Restrooms are always clean. I love that they actually make it spicy when you ask.

Peaceful and cozy spot. Took our two babies here to eat. Not super crowded just after lunch time which we quite enjoy, nice casual setting, with delicious Thai food recommend pad Thai and dumplings. Very delicious. Food came out quite fast, wait was about 10-15 minutes, two other tables were occupied (for reference) The server was also very pleasant and accommodating.

Amazing food! Tom Kha Gai not pictured because I scarfed it down before I could take a picture. Fast service, carry-out only right now but it’s worth it. Will be coming back.
