Grilled steaks, pasta & traditional Florentine mains in an elegant, wood-paneled dining room.

A classy place.
We got a recommendation from our hotel – and went out to try it.
It actually looks like a carriage on the Oriental Express or Old Fashioned American stakehouse – just with no leather booths.
Decent vine card, good starters – we tried a sward fish carpaccio and were not disappointed.
Seafood driven main courses also were delightful (just remember- if you’re an American ordering lobster in Europe – you’re not in MAINE, lol.
Service was ok, Indian crew does a good job – I’d say a team of charismatic Italians would pump
the atmosphere up.
Deserts were a little disappointed tho.
Overall a decent experience

We dined here three times in a 10 day holiday in Florence over Christmas. Amazing fresh cuisine with the friendliest service from Katia. The eggplant Parmesan was unreal and my son ordered the lobster pasta twice:) This is a family owned business and they take pride in what they do and it really shows. Hands-down our favorite restaurant in Florence. Not to be missed!

Il Barretto is a refined, intimate restaurant that prioritizes quality over quantity. The menu is compact but deliberate, with seasonal ingredients and Tuscan staples that feel both familiar and elevated. It’s not trying to impress with flash—it’s about balance, pacing, and letting the food speak for itself. The space is cozy, with soft lighting and minimal noise, making it ideal for solo diners, couples, or small groups who want to focus on the meal and the moment.
Service here is quietly attentive. Staff won’t hover, but they’re quick to notice when you need something. There’s a sense of calm professionalism that matches the tone of the space. You’re not rushed to finish, and that slower rhythm makes the experience feel more personal. Accessibility is decent, though the layout may be tight for wheelchairs or strollers—worth checking ahead if needed.

What an incredible find. A beautiful restaurant with careful and considered service and just beautiful food. All wonderfully simple and just delicious.
The hosts were attentive and went out of their way to find us (5) a table, with drinks outside whilst we waiting. The food was prompt and just lovely.
Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Need a higher rating!

Restaurant is bustling but still very cozy. Staff are welcoming, attentive, kind, and helpful in recommendations. The food was amazing – we all got the lobster pasta which was phenomenal. We also shared the chocolate soufflé which was maybe the standout for me, which is saying a lot because the pasta was great too. Very rich and delicious, and came warm with ice cream as well. Ilham & Ryan were so wonderful and made our time at the restaurant even better!

Katia- IL Barretto Ristaurante – service was exquisite! Quiet restaurant off the Main Street. Very nice and well kept inside. Ambiance is calm, romantic, clean and pleasant. Everyone from the owner to the host were all welcoming & we were greeted warmly upon arrival. Katia was such a pleasure to have as our waitress. She checked in at the right times to make sure we were all right and if we needed anything. My daughters were also treated well. The food was delicious. So good that we went there twice for dinner! We enjoyed the Lobster Pasta, catch of the day Sea Bass Branzino, & pasta with shrimp. We also had the yummy sides white beans, buffalo caprese & mixta salad – all delicious! For dessert we enjoyed the lemon sorbet, tiramisu, & crème brûlée. Can’t wait to come back to Florence to dine at IL Barretta again! Thank you for the outstanding service & delicious food!

How can any restaurant stand out in the wealth of wonderful dining venues in Florence? Well, Il Barretto can. The restaurant is charming, and the host and staff are wonderful, but then you are served such absolutely delicious food, and you say, “I think that we made a good choice here.” It is as though every meal is prepared by someone’s mother. Just stunning. Also, the wine paired so well. I cannot speak highly enough of the atmosphere, the service, and the exceptional food. The location of the restaurant is perfect for a pre-cocktail at Uggi or other venues. If I were you, I would go out of my way to dine at Il Barretto.

Great dining experience across the board! The atmosphere is remarkable — elegant but effortlessly comfortable. We split a Burrata as a starter, and it was deeply flavorful. For mains we had a Black Truffle Taglitelli and Ossobucco with a side of their potatoes. Every bite was a treat. We enjoyed a really nice Tuscan blend red wine that the waiter recommended (wish we had noted the name), and it paired very well with both our mains. We were far too full to order a dessert, but it was tempting. We had some terrific dining experiences in Firenza, and this is at the top of our list. Ben fatto!!

Our hotel Il Tournabouni secured this reservation for us on a Saturday night. The place is cozy, nice lighting and very kind and generous service from the owner! This is a mix of locals and tourists but I think it’s the perfect place to unwind after arriving on a long flight and easing into Florence. The food is basic comfort Italian that will be familiar to US guests. You can never go wrong with pasta and any selection of meats and cheeses. Very nice evening.
