Highly recommend if you are looking for Ethiopian food or a new and unique cuisine. My dish was very flavorful. I like that you can customize your sides. The portions are very filling, so you are getting your money’s worth. The service was super helpful and friendly. Our server was attentive to refills and all of our questions. Would go again!

A nice Ethiopian spot in town with a good variety of dishes to try. The coffee is really good too. The price is high for students. The atmosphere is decent, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Service can be a bit slow at times, and there’s definitely room for improvement.

Our family just went to Blue for the first time. My wife and I are both big fans of Ethiopian cuisine and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely great. If you love Ethiopian food like we do, you will feel at home and happy. If you have never tried it, this is worth the detour. We had the meat sampler plate as well as an additional plate with (not spicy) chicken, just to make sure the kiddos would enjoy the food, as Ethiopian food can be quite spicy. It was not, and they enjoyed eating all dishes. Big success! We will be back!
(Also, new, they just started carrying wine and beer).

What a wonderful restaurant to have in town! The food was excellent; well-seasoned, hearty, and comforting. The shïro was so well spiced it was decadent with the texture if the injara. I appreciated the clearly labelled vegetarian & vegan sections. There were a lot of great options!

The Ethiopian coffee was exquisite! A staff member roasted the beans at the back of the restaurant and brought the pan around for tables to see and experience the aroma wafting off the beans.

When the coffee was served, she burned a small bit of incense right before the coffee was served. It was a great touch and deepened the notes of the coffee. I’m looking forward to going back!

I was very excited to try this restaurant since I hadn’t tried African cuisine before. The waiter was very attentive. The atmosphere was great. It took a little while to get our food but it’s understandable since this was opening weekend and there were many people. I ordered the vegan platter and my husband got beef. My dish serves 2 people and has beers, lentils, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, and a fresh salad, all served on injera bread. The bread was soft and tasty. This vegan platter is served at room temperature. Prices were a little high in my opinion. I wish them long term success!

Super excited about this new spot in Champaign! I got the spicy beef stew, kale collard greens, lentils and homemade cheese. My guest had lamb, potatoes and beets, and cabbage with carrots. I tried everything and it was great. There are tables and traditional seating options. We also had the Ethiopian coffee ceremony after dinner. The city needs more cultural options so please go check them out.

UPDATE 02/22/26: We came in again a month after our initial visit during their soft opening, and I’m VERY happy to say it has only gotten better. While we were happy overall after our first visit, there were a few minor things we overlooked due to it being their opening weekend – that’s all good now. Service is good and organized, food is CRAZY fast (though that’s likely due to us ordering the veggie sampler), and it even TASTES better. I had originally thought some things were a little underseasoned compared to other Ethiopian restaurants we’ve been to, but that is no longer the case – the food is genuinely really, really good.

I really only have a couple notes: more injera for combo platters would be highly welcome especially for the overall price, which is QUITE a bit higher than similar Ethiopian restaurants in major cities I’ve been to like Chicago, St Louis, Indianapolis, etc. I’m not going to criticize the price because keeping a restaurant afloat is really difficult and you do get a lot of food, but it is true that it is pricier than any Ethiopian restaurant I’ve ever been to by a noticeable amount. But I’m not complaining, overall I love this place and will keep paying what it costs – it’s easier than driving 2-3 hours to another city that has a restaurant like this, after all.

ORIGINAL: Came in for the soft opening. My wife and I have been wishing for an Ethiopian restaurant in the area for years and it was everything we wanted it to be!

There were a couple minor kinks, which is to be expected on an opening weekend, but nothing that affected our enjoyment and the food was great. It came out faster than I was expecting too! Overall a great addition to Champaign’s food scene and we hope to eat here for years to come.

Come hungry 🙂
We have been waiting SO long for Ethiopian food and it did not disappoint!! (See before and after photo )
The veggie combo definitely comfortably feeds 2, even 3 people depending on how hungry you are
Pro tip — order extra injera, it is worth it!!
Also the coffee was a super cool experience

The young man serving us was very attentive and friendly and did a wonderful job explaining the menu. He did a great job despite the completely packed restaurant and wait. The owner was polite and greeted us immediately. The food presentation was exciting and flavors were wonderful. We loved the lamb stew and beets side dish the most. I also enjoyed my herbal tea. Great new restaurant that we hope get support to stay long term!
