December 2025 – BEST Bún Chả in the Bay Area. This iconic grilled pork dish, a specialty from North Vietnam, can be found at this family run counter in the Lion Plaza Food Court.

I only come here for my Grilled Pork with rice noodle and fresh herbs. Their special Fish Sauce is what makes this dish so good. Together with the grilled pork aroma, the sauce brings out a deep and sweet harmony in every bite.

For an authentic taste of Vietnam Northern cuisine, this is the place to go to.

A subtle bun rieu from Northern part of Viet Nam. Nice broth with crab/egg ball, rau muong (similar to spinach) and tofu. Tasty and full of texture. Comes with tea and spices to bring out the flavors. Had pho ga this morning. Very nice broth. You can request other chicken bits like liver, gizzards. The breast was not overcooked, so perfect. The owners are friendly and helpful.

Chicken broth noodles and porridge stall that has been serving flavorful steam Hainan style chicken based dishes. They have been around since the food court opened. Still here and still great value!

Service was really fast, and the flavor of the broth was absolutely great. The lady gave an option of small or thick type of noodles, and the cash register guy was nice too.

I’ve been here twice and the service has been good and quick. Chicken pho is very tasty and tastes close to pho in northern Vietnam, which is where pho originated from.

I was surprised how tasty the chicken pho was: rich, satisfying broth with fresh, tasty chicken bits accompanied by all the usual fixings. I even enjoyed the (optional) liver and chicken skin – latter had a pleasantly chewy texture. Perfect comfort food for a cold, rainy day.

March 2023 – GREAT NEW DISH: BEEF STEW Bò Kho
Good tasting broth, not too salty, not too strong Anise spice—I’m glad I tried this new item on their menu. A generous portion of beef brisket, very little fat, quite tender. This is my perfect Protein supply of the day. With some pieces of potato, carrot, and dycon, garnished with thinly sliced onion and basil, I chose to have this Beef Stew with some bread but you can have it with noodles as well. I would love to have the meat laced with more tendon but I guess the lean meat used is better for our health…so can’t complain here. The rains have stop for now. I don’t mind driving 50 miles for this lunch. Those of you who live in the area, don’t miss the opportunity to taste this good Bò Kho and lend your support to this family run food store during this Post Covid time.

March 2021 – BEST IN THE BAY VIETNAMESE CHICKEN SOUP ‘PHỞ GÀ’
In the early 80’s when our family went out for Phở Gà, we always come to this place where we can find the best Phở Gà in the Bay Area. More than 35 years later, I still vote it as Best in the Bay. Why?
Because the soup is light and tasty, the chilken chewy and not soft like Costco chichen, even the yellow chicken skin tastes good and not fatty. You can choose to have either the ‘fresh’ rice noodle or the ‘regular’ kind from dry noodle. Fresh green onion, cilantro, sliced onion, basil, bean sprouts and a piece of lemon bring all the different tastes into a harmony in your mouth. Don’t forget to add some ground black pepper to the bowl and fresh chili pepper if you like the hot taste.
The food court where Phở Gà Hưng is situated is airly, clean, and filled with natural light. The service is friendly and prompt. And we always show our appreciation to the kind busboy (or rather ‘bus uncle’) who efficiently clear and clean the table for us with a good tip. Finally we can sit inside now to enjoy our meal. Additional seatings outside are also available.
As always I don’t mind driving an hour to go to San Jose for this soup dish. Feel quite grateful for the good people who are still there.

I’ve been eating here since I was a kid. This is probably the best Pho ga places in SJ. The food tastes great. Family owned business. It is in a food court in Lion Plaza. Very friendly to kids and those guests that want to eat different foods in the food court. They specialize in chicken dishes so please check it out! The Canh Bun is also delicious and it’s like your grandma cooked it for you. I haven’t found another place that has delicious vietnamese dishes like this one in the Bay. Must check out.
