We sit down at the bar with a friend who’s a regular. Bartender (Kimmy) brings him his usual drink—cool, no problem.
But then we ask how much they are…
And she says, loud and proud,
“They’re $3 for HIM, but NOT for HIM,” referring to my husband…
and then adds, “he’s a regular happy hour customer.”
I’m sorry… what business openly says that out loud??
So if you’re not one of their chosen people, you just pay more?? Got it.
She never did tell us how much they were.
We should’ve walked out right then.
We didn’t. Stayed for our friend.
Mistake #1.
I order tacos. Our friend orders tacos. my husband says he’ll let her know if he wants to order food. Friends tacos come out… mine don’t.
She came back finally to ask if my husband wanted to order and only when he said no, did she put my order in.
Then we try to buy Iowa Lottery Monopoly tickets. I literally set $20 on the bar and ask for 4 tickets. My husband asks for 5.
She comes back with his.
Not mine.
I ask again.
Still nothing.
Never got them. Completely ignored.
At this point it’s very clear—if you’re not part of the “regular crowd,” you are not getting service.
And then the grand finale…
We’re paying, I go to sign the receipt and tell her the pen doesn’t work.
She grabs another pen and throws it across the bar at me.
Not slides… not hands it to me…
throws it across the bar towards me.
At that point I was DONE.
We stayed to be respectful to our friend, but we will NEVER go back. I don’t care how small the town is—there are plenty of places that treat people with basic respect.
If you’re going to treat people differently based on whether they’re “regulars,” at least have the decency not to say it out loud—and definitely don’t follow it up with terrible service.
**it’s also worth adding that a gentleman across the bar ordered tacos. When they came out, he says “hey, I didnt want… (then decides not to say anything) She says…..”WELL YOU DIDNT SPECIFY SO THATS WHAT YOU GET” as she was walking away.
Salad needs a little TLC, it was kind of limp and mostly hard pieces. Other than that food was good.
The outside is a bit shabby but the inside is very bell maintained, pretty typical setup for a small town bar/restaurant but brighter and cleaner than some that I’ve been too.
Service was good, waitress was attentive.
Ordered their prime rib sandwich. I was not given a choice of how I wanted the prime rib prepared and it came medium well… I typically get medium rare. There was only one piece of bread, not two so an open faced sandwich I guess. The flavors were really good and the meal hit the spot! The au jus was fantastic. I ended up cutting my steak and bread into pieces and dipping the steak and bread in the au jus together. The au jus soaked into the bread which made for a very flavorful bite every time. Mashed potato’s were good and the beef gravy was delicious also.
Would definitely go back! Saw several items on the menu I would love to try such as their stroganoff and jambalaya.
Loved the food!
