Los Mayas Mexican Restaurant in Prattville, Alabama, serves authentic Mexican food made with fresh ingredients and offered in large portions. I ordered the tacos carne asada, which came with tender grilled steak seasoned traditionally, served on soft tortillas with onions and cilantro. The queso con jalapeño was a creamy cheese dip with just the right amount of spice from the peppers. I also had the unsweetened tea, which was cold and refreshing. The service was friendly and quick, and everything arrived hot. This place provides good value and a pleasant meal.

I was asked to work at a business near this restaurant. Once we were done, the crew from the company I was working with said they were going to grab lunch while waiting for the truck to come get the pallets of equipped removed. When they said where, one of the guys said he would pass, I said the same. Jokingly I said my wife is Mexican and set the bar high so I would wait until I got home as her cooking is the best ever! About 30 minutes went by and then the other worker said he would join them, so I did too. So the three of them asked if I recommended anything, the picture of the Carnitas plate looked good. I love Carnitas and can usually trust it’s good. So all of us got the same thing. Everyone ate their food, no one complained, no one raved about it either. Here is my take on my plate, the carnitas were a bit greasy, and they tasted like the oil they cook with was old. Not burnt but close to it. The carnitas were tender enough but the taste of most of the pieces had that almost burnt taste. Almost like they were using the same pan to heat up pre-made carnitas throughout the lunch time and it was after 1 when we went. Like tat pan was used over and over, same oil and remnants from previous orders. (If the owner responds and explains, I am not saying you do that, I am just saying what it seemed like to me.) The beans were decent, same with the rice. The salsa, oh my, was like a can of tomato sauce was opened and poured in a bowl. The texture and taste was exactly like that. No pieces of tomato, onion, cilantro or chili visible. I call it blender salsa, everything is pulverized to a thin consistency. We had placed our orders and one of the guys got a call that the truck arrived so he left to go put the pallets on the truck. A few minutes later our food came out. We asked the server if she could take his plate back, maybe pop it in the oven to keep it warm. She said she was afraid that would dry it out and placed it on the table anyway. I “suggested” maybe she could bring a plate to place over it to keep it somewhat warm until he returned. That suggestion was ignored. Little time goes by, one of his coworkers asked her to bring a plate to put over his plate and she did. When he returned he started on his food and asked our server for sour cream. She never brought it. He had to get the attention of a different server and ask again. Atmosphere was like any Mexican restaurant. Food and service could use improvement. I doubt I will ever have a chance to try this again since I was there only for that particular job for a customer that was closing. If I end up nearby I would pass on it. If the locals love it then have at it.

I love Mexican food and there are a lot of options in the Montgomery / Prattville area. Most are ok but not special. Los Maya’s was recommended to me so was curious to test them out. I was pleasantly surprised and say that this is one of the better places I have had the pleasure to visit. The service was very good and prompt and the food was very flavorful and good. The only issue I had was the steak that was part of the meal was over cooked but it was cut so thin it was hard to not overcook it. We had 5 different proteins and they were all good in their own way. I really liked the queso and the margarita

Came in with a large group and was seated right away. The usual chips and salsa was served. The salsa appeared to be just tomatoes blended up. Salt and pepper were added to make it tolerable. I was told by someone in our group who had eaten here before it was better last time. Ok everyone has an off day from time to time. The server came out and took our order. He was prompt but it appeared today was not a good day for him. Again we all have our off days. He was never rude or un attentive at any time. The food came out and everyone in the group found their plates to be as ordered and delicious. With all the choices for Mexican food in town this place is a good choice. I encourage you to try it out for yourself.

First time eating here and we enjoyed it all! Salsa, Chips and Queso were very good. My daughter ordered the Fajita Chicken Chimichanga with Rice and it was huge! I ordered the Shredded Chicken Chimichanga with Rice and Beans and I couldn’t finish it because I was so full! We will definitely be going back again very soon!

I had the chicken fajita potato & it was bland, no flavor…ask for extra onions & peppers, didnt get them but was charged for them (2.95), was also charged 12.95 for the potato…it was supposed to be 9.95, I also asked for extra cheese dip but never received it. Our waitress was good & made sure the table was cleared of extra plates but the food was subpar. The best thing were the margarita flights…cheap liquor in them but still the best thing we had tonight. I was overcharged by almost $6, so check your tickets when you go. I’d go again for the margarita flights.
