I am modifying this review because the great bartender that won best bartender is only there one night a week now because she opened another restaurant and works there five nights a week.
The red room is Great fun! And Juli is a Great bartender! Evidently she won best bartender in Santa Cruz in the Santa Cruz magazine vote. Clearly the two negative reviews are from people who did not respect the history, ambience or atmosphere at the historic Red Room. The last one is clear that she was not interested in going through the front doors so she was obviously primed to find a negative experience and do a negative review. Too bad, there’s lots of fun to be in Santa Cruz for tourist and out of towners if they just lighten up and enjoy the moment.

I dont normally leave reviews unless i feel compelled one way or the other.
This place is very cool. Im sorta a sucker for early 20th century architecture / style but on top of that the staff are really prompt with service and drinks were well priced for the area.

My partner and I had a pretty unpleasant experience here. I knew going in this bar wouldn’t be my vibe but I gave it a try because it was recommended by friends. Immediately when ordering, the blonde female bartender was extremely rude. I ordered my drink and she make a face and said “what?” in a rude tone. I ignored it because I thought she just couldn’t hear me over the music but when my partner asked her to close us out, she refused and kept
making comments about us staying for more drinks when we had only planned for one. This would’ve been fine had she actually been joking but she then proceeded to keep my partner’s card, stay across the bar speaking to only one customer, and ignore my partner when he tried to get her attention.
Thankfully there was another bar within walking distance that we had a great end to our night at.

covid isn’t a concern here, which worries me. no contact tracing, no social distancing, only a few barriers at the bar to protect the bartenders. if you’re worried about covid or don’t already have a vaccine shot don’t come here

Will most certainly come back again! The ambience was there, music was such a vibe, and the bartender Ms Renali made my whole night. Not only was she very knowledgeable on the cocktails and spirits but was very attentive, easy to talk to, and made me feel so comfortable. Went Monday night and had such a blast. From one bartender to another she is the standard and more!
