We love Sourthern Roots Brewing Company! We go for the amazing pizza and beer but everywhere Wednesday night they have a Singer Song Writer Open Mic Night hosted by local artist Jason Herrin. It is the best pizza and best music in Waxahachie!

Pig and Preacher pizza was good, not great. Crust fine just over powered by the juices , cheese very good, toppings OK. But I came to try the beer. The Adelsverein lager I thought was a very good beer. Also, looking forward to trying the To-Go Pivo and Kolsch. It was an early afternoon Monday meal, place not crowded, service relaxed, pleasant and knowledgeable. Can’t speak for the crowded times, but off times, to sit, have a beer, think, or commiserate, not bad. Cheers.

First time on a Saturday afternoon in late September during their Oktoberfest. Located in the old train depot next to an active BNSF rail line in downtown Waxahachie. Little brewery with a spacious interior, separate event room, mainly pizza menu, and specialized lagers, IPAs, ales, and stouts. Wife and I got the Adelsverein (marzen lager), Courthouse Kolsch (German kolsch), Altered Cave (stout with local coffe house beans), and 2 bratwurst special. Beers were smooth, food was tasty, and service was great. Special music from Noah Derrick. This was an easy going low key time. Loved it!

Having spent multiple visits here the staff has always been super great. Trivia nights are also fun to watch or participate in.
Pizza has always been super delicious!
Wings are good, but on the soggy end.
Rotating local beer selections make for unique times every visit.

Southern Roots Brewing Co. feels like one of those places that grew out of genuine love for beer rather than a marketing plan, and that alone earns it some respect in a crowded brewery landscape. From the moment you step in, the atmosphere leans unapologetically “brewery” in the best way: casual, open, and comfortable without trying to dress itself up as something it isn’t. It’s the kind of place where the beer leads the conversation, not the décor.
I had draft beer along with pizza and cider, and all three held their own. The beer was well-made and enjoyable without being pretentious, and the cider added a nice option for anyone looking beyond hops. The pizza did exactly what brewery pizza should do — it supported the beer rather than competing with it — which is harder to get right than most places admit.
Service is counter-based and excellent. Efficient, friendly, and focused, without drifting into robotic or rushed. You get what you need, when you need it, and then you’re left alone to enjoy your drink and your company, which is exactly the right approach for this kind of place.
One of the standout elements here is how dog-friendly the space is, both inside and out. That simple decision changes the tone of the place entirely, turning it into a relaxed community hangout rather than just another stop on a brewery crawl.
Pricing felt fair, the experience felt honest, and I’ll absolutely return. This is a great spot for craft beer lovers, locals, and anyone who wants good beer without a lot of unnecessary noise around it — especially if you’re bringing a dog along for the ride.
We frequently visit the locate in Waco and this one didn’t disappoint either.

Really great food and beer! They were turning people away well before their hours were over, and last call was 30 minutes before as well, which I thought was quite odd. BUT the folks working there were super nice and the food was good! Definitely worth it, just don’t go anywhere close to closing time!

Nice brewery just south of downtown with plenty of pizza and beer. Lots of outdoor seating. Quiet setting near the railroad tracks.

We had a private event and the food was amazing however they didn’t coordinate serving the pizza with the other food. Also, they ran out of food quickly and couldn’t replace it fast enough. As it ended up, we ended up grazing all evening as food came out. Overall though, the food was excellent (the turkey/stuffing/cranberry pizza was AMAZING!!!) and the servers were fantastic! I’d definitely come back.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Southern Roots, a local brewery that boasts a great selection of craft beers. What I love most about this place is that there’s always something new to try. Whether you’re a seasoned beer connoisseur or just looking to explore, Southern Roots has something for everyone.
But it’s not just about the beer; the pizza here is nothing short of amazing. My personal favorites are the Southern Belle and the Gentleman’s Duel. The flavors in these pizzas are a perfect match for the diverse beer menu.
What makes each visit exciting is their monthly special pizza, and today, I had the pleasure of trying it. It was an absolute delight, confirming that their creativity extends beyond just their craft beers.
Southern Roots is a must-visit for anyone looking for a great time with fantastic craft beers and mouthwatering pizzas. The combination of a constantly evolving beer selection and delicious pizza options makes it a standout spot in our local brewery scene.
