Place was recommended by a friend while visiting the valley. The pizza was nothing special tbh and was not worth 3x the price of the big pizza chains. The chicken wings are good and the place itself is nice to chill at. The ladies were very polite and helpful. I’d do Parry’s over this any day of the week however.

I’d like to tell you a story. It’s either late 80s or early 90s and it’s just me and my mom at The Plaza Mall. We’ve gone through the routine of JC Penny’s, Dillards, and Sears and now it’s time for my food court reward for not misbehaving. Many of you might not remember or have been born yet, but the place that took center stage and what was my favorite pizza place to this day was Luca Pizza. I’ll always remember a worker wearing their chef’s whites offering samples in the dining area, and my mom taking one for each of us. Every time I ate a piece I thought, “man, no wonder the Ninja Turtles love pizza so much”.

And then one day it was gone. The pizzeria that I loved so much growing up was no longer there, and it felt like it took all my memories with it. I thought that was it. All we have left here in The Valley is global pizza chains. Nothing made with heart. But then a cousin of mine told me that one of the cooks opened up his own place in Mission on Conway called “Pizza di Roma”. Familiar faces. Familiar flavors. Familiar memories. After getting a haircut at Tatan’s I would drive over and walk through the back entrance after passing their herb garden and get a pie. Things were right in the world, and wouldn’t you know it, I came to learn that the full name of Luca Pizza was “Luca Pizza di Roma”. Hah!

And then one day it was gone. The doors were shut. The lights were off. Surely this can’t be happening again right? Of course it was. The story would repeat itself with yet another pizzeria with the same staff called Titto’s Pizzeria in Palmview until that too was gone, only this time there was no new incarnation. The spiritual descendants of Luca Pizza in The Plaza Mall were now all gone. There was no more pizza to be made from them anymore. Their story, as far as I know, had ended.

And then one day I discovered The Pizzeria. The same cousin recommended it saying it reminded him of Pizza di Roma. Familiar ingredients! Familiar flavors! So, of course, I made the trek to Harlingen.

Has anyone ever had that experience where they open the doors to a restaurant and you’re immediately hit in the face with the smell that defines their restaurant? For steak houses it’s the smell of the smoke coming from a seared steak, for panaderias it’s the smell of sugar and freshly baked bread, and for coffee shops it’s the smell of the sweetness of freshly ground coffee beans. For The Pizzeria, it was the smell of a caramelized pizza crust, the burnt flour left over in the oven, and the unmistakable heat and smell of a 450 degree oven that has baked thousands of pies in its lifetime.

Now, I’ve been a loyal fan of this local pizza chain for years, and when their Harlingen location first opened, I still remember walking in and feeling like I had stepped into a true, passion-driven pizzeria. The place had energy, heart, and a sense of pride. Perhaps not familiar faces, but familiar flavors and, yes, familiar memories.

But lately, something’s changed, and not for the better. My recent visits to the Mission location have felt strangely lifeless in comparison. While the ingredients are still fresh, the execution hasn’t been keeping up. The crusts come out uneven, the bakes inconsistent, and the attention to detail that once defined them seems to be fading.

The frustrating part is that they still have all the ingredients (pun intended) to be great. Every single bite I take I think “This is good, and it’s so close to being great, but it’s just not there.” What’s lacking now is technique and care. The fundamentals aren’t being applied with the same precision or passion they used to, and the result shows.

I genuinely hope they can turn things around, because this isn’t a lost cause. They’ve proven before, especially in those early Harlingen days, that they can deliver pizza with real heart. With a renewed focus on craftsmanship and consistency, they could easily reclaim what made them special. I want to keep cheering for them, but they need to rediscover the spark that once set them apart.

I usually love this place and this is my first time having. Bad experience, not sure if it’s new staff? But todays pizza was super disappointing these were supposed to be two large pizzas

I am updating my review. I was called by the owner? Not sure but he was very nice and understanding, he offered two free pizzas in replacement of the others we enjoyed them dining In.

Terrible experience. I placed an online order at 5:34 P.M. The order was supposed to be complete at 5:54. I arrived and they said it was t ready, something about the garlic knots (will talk about those later). I didn’t receive the order until 6:22! Just about 30 minutes after it was supposed to be ready! Absolutely ridiculous. The “manager” Dominique and the other girl in from were rude, and severely lacked customer service skills. So I get the order, and the garlic knots are disgustingly drenched in oil. I’ve gotten them before and they are NEVER like this. I couldn’t eat them, they were so gross. At that patient I just wanted to go home, those women weren’t going to be any help anyway. I will attach a picture, it was honestly worse than how it looks in the picture. For the owner, please try and do something to fix this. I only onlrdered one large pizza and one order of garlic knots, this was just an overall terrible experience, I don’t know that I’ll be back.

This is a wonderful place. You got tables to sit and enjoy their pizza. The pizzas are quite bigger than a regular large size pizza. My kids and I enjoyed eating and watching golf.

Ordered the two pizza deal in person and waited 33 minutes for the order. One of the pizzas was burnt to the point I had to tell them to come check it out. They offered to remake it, I agreed but told them we had to leave soon to catch a baseball tournament. They said it would only take 7 minutes and I waited. We where the only family there at that time, I don’t know why the first order took over half an hour. I wasn’t upset about the burnt pizza, just disappointed that they saw it like that and still served it to us.

I don’t know if they got somebody new making the pizzas but I can’t recommend anymore which sucks because for the last couple of years this was literally the only place I would go to for pizza. This is the second time I’ve purchased a pizza with almost three inches of crust. The first time was really disappointing because it was a 10″ that was almost all crust, I let it slide because we all make mistakes but this is the second time in 2 weeks. I’m also pretty sure my New York isn’t 24″ as well. They used to make them with about an inch of crust and it was awesome. Maybe they’re trying to cut corners but I’ve wasted $40 in my last 2 visits and I’m probably not going back.

Though I carried out, the environment seemed clean and overall ambiance was calm. We got a large (14inch) pepperoni pizza and large meat lovers pizza. I’m rating the pepperoni a 7.4/10 and the meat lovers 7.1/10, which are both good scores. The pizza was good overall, would go again. Recommend ordering ahead of time to avoid 20-30 minutes of wait time. Service was great, staff were friendly.

Great pizza… decent wings.

We ordered a 3 topping pizza… pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms; pretty safe toppings. The pizza was actually very delicious! The crust was light and crunchy…but not too stiff. The pizza slices weren’t too thick…some places use a lot of dough…these slices were just right. The pizza was very flavorful…each ingredient could be tasted on its own with each bite.

We also ordered an order of hot wings. The sauce was quite nice…and the wings had good flavor. I knocked it down 1 star because the wings could’ve used a little more sauce…and they were small. They were more along the size of boneless wings than traditional wings. Overall great taste…but a little more sauce and more size.

Overall…still recommend going there for the pizza. Definitely want to try their strombolis as well.

We came here on a whim and it was the best idea ever. Ordered some garlic knots, the chicken alfredo, and a balsamic vinigrette salad. Came out to like 19 dollars with tax. It is a large amount of good, taste so good, and definitely will come here again. Btw they have large fresh pizza slices for 2.99!
