Reviews
I’ve wanted to come here for about 10 years. I recently visited on a Wednesday nite for a belated birthday dinner with my son, and I’m kicking myself for not stopping in sooner!
I’ll take you through our journey:
Digital Footprint:
There is no website or digital menu to snoop; they don’t exist. They don’t really need to. Osteria’s Facebook page is current and updated frequently with contact & current event info.
Reservations:
Call their main phone number and leave a message to get a reservation. They will return your call within 24 hours to confirm.
Arrival:
Parking was easy & ample. The main entry is the door on the side with the ramp & stairs. I missed the Hostess Stand at first, but I was quickly attended to and seated.
Ambiance:
Warm, friendly, & authentic. There is a bar and several dining rooms. Live music at the bar didn’t filter into our dining area. There was a surprising amount of customers on a rando wintery Wednesday nite. But it wasn’t too noisy. I have hearing challenges in noisy environments and I had no problem that evening enjoying conversation over our meal.
Service:
The service was superb. Our server was wonderful with insightful personalized suggestions and appropriately attentive. Our food courses arrived with impeccable timing.
THE FOOD:
Overview:
We were happy to see such surprising variety on the menu. Both à la carte and the Specials menus were intriguing. My dining companion is a Type 1 Diabetic who gravitates towards lower carb dishes. He found several things on the menu that he could try without asking for dietary mods (they could have done dietary mods, but that wasn’t necessary).
Starters:
We started with Mussels in White Sauce. These were EXCELLENT. The mussels were cooked to perfect texture; tender and springy – not rubbery at all. The White Sauce was luscious; a light, buttery broth that wasn’t overly salted or too rich. We soaked untold bread slices into it long after the mussels were gone.
Salad:
Our entrees came with a tidy House Salad with choice of fresh, house-made dressing. My son chose the Italian (a vinaigrette) and I chose the Bleu Cheese. My son really enjoyed his dressing; and I also enjoyed mine. The Bleu Cheese dressing was so fresh and bright. The chunks of cheese are ample… I will be back just for that dressing alone lol.
Entrees:
We both chose items from that evening’s Special Menu. My son chose the stuffed pork chop with side of potatoes and broccoli. He savored it all; enjoying every nuance of the recipe.
I chose the veal medallions with crab & shrimp, layered with soft cooked tomato slices over buttery pasta. The sauce in this dish was wonderfully balanced. It wasn’t heavy or salty. It wasn’t oily or flat. The mouthfeel was lush & complex without being over the top. Perfect. I had to take half of it home; my capacity isn’t what it used to be – and this was a generous portion.
Overall:
Osteria is a wonderful local gem. The food, ambiance, & service is fantastic. The sauces are prepared fresh & with thoughtful care, and the menu offers something for everyone. Kudos, Chef (and all at Osteria) – thank you so much! Looking forward to returning!
