The birthplace of Sushi Seki. Founded in 2002, the original location still exudes charm and familiarity, as well as its reputation as a late night den, hosting New York’s elite from the worlds of music, fashion and entertainment until 2:30am nightly, as well as a plethora of well-known chefs. The original Sushi Seki is a haven for those that call the Upper East home. The Upper East Side is an award-winning destination and often hosts political figures and celebrities looking for the best sushi, sashimi and Omakase in New York City.

I came to sushi seki for my first omakase experience and it did not disappoint! First, we got some appetizers and the fried chicken was very good, flavorful and tender. Then, the first omakase dish came out and I was stunned by the presentation, very pretty! That tuna was absolutely MIND-BLOWING! It was my first time having tuna that didn’t taste fishy and it just melted in my mouth. Every single piece of sushi I had was so tasty, I couldn’t stop smiling. On the next plate, my favorite was the oyster! It was so tasty and the seaweed added great flavor as well. On the next plate, I was scared to have their uni because of a past experience but it was actually sweet and very good! It made me realize I just didn’t have quality sushi before. I really like the scallop nigiri as well and the hand roll was delicious! I was so full but needed to try their dessert and I was shocked that even the dessert was AMAZING. I almost ordered a second one, I believe it was a chocolate panna cotta.
The service was great too, I have no complaints. Each piece was explained by the server and they made sure to accommodate our requests, each of us had different ones. They had a welcoming atmosphere as soon as we walked in. Overall, best experience I’ve ever had, the food was excellent. I’ve had omakase many times since then but sushi seki is still my number one choice, I’ll be back again!

Did not let us in during the listed grace period on Resy. They clearly were overbooked and looking for any reason to turn tables away. Even after offering to eat fast to only use their listed 75 minutes from reservation time, they still refused. There was also an onslaught of delivery drivers outside which shows that they take too many orders and too many reservations and can’t fulfill them. Do yourself a favor and go to any of the other mid sushi places in the area that are run by someone with a developed brain.

Truly amazing, All omakaze are so tasty, yet delicate. This location are always busy which is good thing for them! So Reservation is recommended. The service also go along with food quality. Nice and friendly.
The timing between each dish during busy time might take around 10-15min. We complete the whole set and total spend time there around 3hr. It’s a nice gathering with friend, family or coworker to have conversation during special dinner.

We did the omakase for two on Tuesday night, January 6 at 7pm. My friend and I were genuinely shocked by how bad the food was, to the point that we were embarrassed sitting at the sushi bar and had to tell the staff to stop serving us because we were finished.
We ordered the fried chicken appetizer and did not finish it. Other than the toro, we did not enjoy a single dish that was served. This was especially disappointing because we have both eaten at Sushi Seki UES before and had a very different experience. That said, we realized afterward that our last visit was probably seven to nine years ago, so this felt like a major decline rather than a one off issue.
The total cost was around $280 all in, which made the experience even harder to swallow given the quality. We left deeply disappointed and unfortunately will not be returning.

Interesting and creative sushi place. Some dishes are really good – white tuna sushi with seared tomato and triple decker with caviar and uni. Other dishes are not so good, such as fried chicken and seaweed salad. But overall, it is a good sushi spot in the city

Sushi Seki has great sushi, and it is open very late too! Come in, sit at the sushi bar, say “omikase”, and lots of great sushi appears. Third time here. I think it was even better than the last time. The great pieces of nigari just keep showing up. Anyway, they’re all so good!

This place was decent as a neighborhood sushi spot. The sushi rolls weren’t the best I’ve had but I do like the fact that they don’t add too much rice. The big hit of the night though were the A5 wagyu skewers – perfectly cooked and just so mouth watering good.

There’s nothing wrong with Sushi Seki—if you like overpriced, average sushi. I ordered a tuna avocado roll for $14, and the soft-shell crab roll was $19 for just five pieces, mostly cucumber with barely any crab. The eel sushi was served cold. It felt like a total rip-off. Overall, the sushi was mediocre at best, and they don’t even offer rice paper. New Yorkers, you can absolutely find much better sushi in this city—no question.

Disappointing. Sushi/rolls/sashimi lacked freshness, one order was so bad it had to be sent back yet still appeared on the bill, and the service felt rushed and impatient. Prices were double what you’d pay at truly authentic places in the area and around the UES. With plenty of far better sushi options within a short walk, this was a waste of time and money, I will not go back unfortunately.

Absolutely delicious omakase for a pretty penny. They do open omakase so it keeps going until you ask for it to close off.
If you have a budget, you can estimate at about $40 per plate round.
We came here for our anniversary dinner and was pleasantly blown away. Every piece of fish we had was really interesting and incredibly tasty. The fatty tuna melts without needing to chew in your mouth, the oyster was just the right amount of brininess that my partner who usually dislikes oysters was happy with the flavour while I love a very strong oyster which this hit the right spot for. Their sautéed tomatoes compliments the other dishes very well, the scallop is very tender with the right amount of salt and lemon, and my favourite might’ve been then tofu sushi with tuna and tofu sauce!
Overall it was quite crowded for a Friday night at 7pm and the area inside the restaurant is quite small. Consider coming earlier or calling to make a reservation ahead of time.
