The staff were super friendly and helpful. Kind and attentive. The food was alright but it’s impressive how long they’ve been in business and I can see why because they give massive portions. We got the deals and it was $14 per dish, we maybe spent $33 for the whole thing for 2 dishes and tip.
One dish could’ve fed me and my boyfriend.
We’d definitely return in the future. Again, service was nice. The only real issue would be that it smells a bit like cigarettes but again, service was good.

I’m shocked to see that this place rates higher then other chinese restaurants in Victoria!
Food overall is tasteless, wonton soup with salty dark broth, and not pork filling? Fried rice like most gave reviews is tasteless, and weird chicken, and sweet and sour pork is orangey and not red??? Substituting the real item for something else to save expense?
Many say the portions are large and it’s about quality over quantity, not subpar with a pile of food that frankly isnt the best! Place is run down and needs a face lift as tables, floor are old and the place is clean but musty smelling with a hint of cigarettes.
Owner is friendly I’ll give you that, but it doesnt rate a 4.3 average, don’t be fooled. Many better places in Victoria with lower scores. Tried once and wont be returning! It’s a shame, was fooled by the reviews some gave saying this place was great or fantastic!

The food to quality ratio is crazy, it’s hard to believe somewhere like this actually exists in 2024. The tables were a bit sticky, and the place looked a bit bland, but the food was incredible, better than many high-end restaurants. The portions were also amazing, with the spring roll appetizer that came as part of our $30 meal for two, was larger than most 30 dollar meals in their entirety. The chow mein had huge pieces of thick-cut beef, and the sweet and sour pork had a thin, and crunchy coating, and large pieces of pork inside. The owner and the waiter were both super hospitable and joked around with everyone.

First time back in about 30 years, this is one of those “Hole in the Wall” chinese places Victoria is kind of known for.
I had a large wor wonton and ate it to myself. The guy working there was skeptical that I could eat it all. I ate all but 6 broccoli (not a huge fan of Broccoli). This will be Somewhere I’ll come back to again. Huge bowl, fantastic prices.

I came for the cozy retro vibes and stayed for the vegan hot and sour soup and Szechuan tofu that was super tasty.
We were also served some herbal tea that was made from wild harvested roots, leaves and berries – and I’m not sure if that’s a regular thing but it was sooooo good.

I’ll preface this by saying I’ve lived in Sandspit, Campbell River, Nanaimo, Victoria, Fort Nelson, Dawson Creek and Kamloops all for more than 3 years. In each town I’ve find the best Chinese food. I’m now back in Victoria for good and I’ve been looking my ‘my place’.
Ive found it, and im now a die-hard fan. The flavor is tops, like too good. The staff are amazing. The portions are faaat and the prices are sliiiim.
I appreciate what you guys have created so much, and from talking to staff it’s been this way since 1984.

Such a beautiful nostalgic place . The food was in very large portions and the quality was fabulous. Two gentlemen’s were very sweet and lovely and we had great time at this place .Also the plum souse is very unique and most try .the spring roll sounds like full meal size ! Over all Young restaurant is 21/10 Thank you

It all started out very nicely-great Customer service over the phone, but after waiting 1 hour for the delivery and having to call back to see where the food was….the food finally arrived 1.5 hours later- I asked if it was hot and was told” it was just cooked” but it was merely warmish- when I did not add the tip I was asked” no tip?” I explained I had cash on hand and expressed my discontent with waiting so long- when the delivery person left-we had a good look at our food- the shrimp and egg roll were soggy , the dry pork was ok and actually very good, but the deep fried wonton ended up looking like a big fried chip, with a sliver of pork in the middle. see pic- It had been a while since my family and I had ordered from Young’s and it will be our last- maybe things are better when you eat in?

You will never be disappointed going to Young’s. The service is always incredible, the food taste exactly as you’d expect and everything has a warm glow to it. It’s just people loving what they’re doing, making good food, at reasonable prices. Fantastic.
