Sycamore is a great neighborhood restaurant. The food, in general, is consistently good. We can usually count on a good meal here. The menu is small but has a good variety. The meats, soups, and pastas are done well. The fish dishes are sometimes inconsistent. Limited dessert choices but they are usually good.
My only complaint is that the staff rushes to clear plates even though we were not done eating, as time gets close to the reservation time limit. A few times, they took the plates with food away before we were able to speak up. I understand they want to turn the table over but would prefer that they give us a heads up so we can finish faster. Sometimes, we get lost in conversations and not always mindful of the time.

The menu was limited but the food was tasty. We had the braised lamb. It saids for 2 but it’s not. One person can certainly eat it. The service was pristine and the place was clean. The crafted cocktails were very good. The smoked blue fish pate was delicious and the potato wedges were also delicious. It was a side, but we need to get it while waiting for the lamb. Worth going.

This is a truly excellent restaurant – attentive service, beautiful and flavorful dishes, and a lovely atmosphere. The swordfish was delicious. And the beignets for dessert were a heavenly bite! Highly recommend this place

This was my second time at Sycamore. Food is outstanding. Atmosphere is nice, but can get loud for dinner with all the chatter and music, that is just too loud for a finer-dining establishment. They go for a romantic- cozy feel, but then turn up the music as if it’s a sports bar. Turn down the music guys!!
My biggest gripe was the rushed service last night.
We arrived without a reservation. The hostess was kind enough to seat us and explicitly said “you have plenty of time, at least two hours.”
The evening started with a waitress that was very sweet. At some point during dinner, we got a different waitress. The second waitress was rushing us along to the point of being rude. She took my friends plate just as he put the last bite into his mouth. I had one small piece of food on my plate and told her I was still working on mine. She stood behind my friend waiting until I ate that one bite so she can take the plate right away. She brought us dessert menus a minute later without even asking if we wanted dessert. Within five mins she came back to the table THREE times asking if we were ready to order. Again, as soon as we put the last bite of dessert in our mouths, she was right there to sweep up our plates. About thirty seconds later the check was on our table. The entire experience from sit-down to getting up took 1:15 mins. So much for “you have two hours”!
Considering how good the food was, I hope she’s just new and needs some training and this isn’t the standard for service at this restaurant because that would be a shame.

They have metered parking ️, so no worries.The staff is super friendly, warm and welcoming. Today it was busy but I was able to reserve a table on “ open table “. I had the steak it was really good . The picture is below ⬇️. My husband had the chicken it tasted fresh and was really good . The portion sizes are really good. I was surprised by that . The fruity cocktails I tried them all , they are really good . I have some pictures below ⬇️. The place is spotless including the bathrooms .

What a wonderful way to spend a birthday celebration! Perfect atmosphere – lively yet not too loud, cozy but not too stuffy. The service was diligent and very nice. Coursed out our apps dinner and dessert perfectly. We had asked for one of the mains (the ragu) to be our starter and they were not only accommodating, but they even put it in two separate bowls(BIG WIN). The mains were delicious and fresh. And the dessert??? Chocolate pistachio cheesecake? 10/10 Once again, a perfect birthday dinner.

It was an amazing restaurant. Each dish came with a pleasant surprise, and the flavors were excellent. The ceviche was presented differently than I had imagined, and the gratin was creatively prepared like lasagna. Even the corn soup was an arrangement I had never tasted before. However, every dish blended the local ingredients beautifully, creating a new and delightful taste. The syrup-soaked cake for dessert was also a stylish and innovative dish, with chai spices adding a unique twist to the sweetness. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was chic, and there was a steady stream of local customers.
Although Newton is a bit far from downtown Boston, this place is definitely a taste I would recommend to friends.

I will be dreaming about this meal. Everything was outstanding. Even the simple house pickles were amazing. We got the orechette, strawberry and snap pea salad, steak entree, croquettas and carrots. The coursing was timed perfectly and the owner was very friendly not only to us, but we watched him touch every table and make everyone feel welcome.
We will be back, DUH!!

I ordered steak and fries
The steak was really over cooked I ordered a medium well steak and I was served a very well done steak! To my surprise a steak like this left the kitchen since they slice the steak and have the opportunity to do some quality control
Fries were really good but that’s not what you’re paying almost $50 for. My server didn’t take my feedback well at all!

We have had several amazing meals in this cosy, warm and welcoming joint right in the middle of Newton centre.
We went once without a reservation and sat at the bar but have had to book early in almost every other occasion. The food is always perfect in every way which does not happen frequently and when it does – it is a great experience.
The cavatelli was outstanding. Same with the porkchops. The deserts were great too. The staff were attentive , and at the same time knowledgeable about what was on offer. The managers too are extremely nice and offered us some very helpful advice on the venue itself.
That said, I’ve found that the steak is chewy and I wouldn’t order it again.
I do miss the pork chop as it’s sometimes not on the menu but then I find something else to dote on -without fail.
All said, this is a place that one can keep going back to.
Menu keeps changing and it’s always full but it’s definitely worth it and make a reservation to avoid disappointment as it’s always full – even on weekends
