Let down by the recommendation. If you’re looking for where this is located, it’s inside the old Asian Plaza building, more notably known by Howlin’ Rays, in between Alpine Street & Ord Street. The restaurant itself is very small and more quick-bite oriented than dine-in. Disappointed really is how this turned out, chili cheese fries, two different kinds of burgers. Chili cheese fries were simple yet effective; the chili was on the sweeter side and simple. The onions had a nice touch to the whole thing, although the price for such was on the higher end, “$11.” One burger was decent, “$14,” while the Amboy, “$21,” wasn’t worth the price, especially since my burger was not fully cooked. Their excuse was it’s served medium rare, but my patty is clearly raw and confirmed under temperature. Interestingly, the overall flavor was quite flat and very rare in a restaurant—under salted! Which can be a good thing depending on you as a person. The buns also weren’t that great as a whole package. I did end up with the squirts the following day, sadly, repeatedly. In the end, no matter how fancy you try to make something, it’s just a burger. This is why we end up going back to In-N-Out and just order it however you would like it, with the consistency, discipline, and willingness to make it right. Overall spent $55 on just myself definitely a luxury catered meal.

I stopped by Amboy Burgers after coming to Union Station on the Greyhound from San Diego. The place had a small line outside but it moved quickly. Since it was my first time, I ordered the classic Amboy burger with yellow peppers, and went to sit at a table outside.
I was en route to LAX and realized my phone battery was quite low. I asked the clerk if I could charge my phone for a bit and he graciously plugged me in behind the counter. The burger itself was really good. It tasted like what I’d call a crossover of In-N-Out and a hole-in-the-wall smashburger spot. The meat was super flavorful, though, and the bun was quite good too.
The only downside is that it was like ~$18 after tax for a fairly small burger. But, I realize this is Los Angeles in 2026, so I let it slide and not interfere with my interpretation of the burger. Plus, the willingness to let me charge was really nice.

Grade A+ (97): These were amount the best burgers I’ve eaten, the smash Style with double meat was the best fallout very closely by the fancy and the steakhouse. All three were so good that I couldn’t decide which one to leave for the last bite. The place isn’t very impressive and it’s in a shopping type area inside right opposite Howlin Rays and it is in Chinatown, parking is not very hard there are a couple of paid parking lots behind it and there’s also some street parking that you could find. They do close late for that type of business they close at 9:00 there’s not too many seats in there but they do have outdoor seating. I definitely recommend going there if you are looking for burgers I didn’t like the hot dog that much it was just okay.

Have been wanting to try out Amboy; I got the fancy style DH burger. The burger was very thick and filling, I could only eat half! It was very juicy, but I felt the flavor was a little bland. I really enjoyed the truffle fries though so maybe I’ll get that style of burger next time. Unfortunately, they got our fries and burger order wrong but they gave us the wrong order on the house and it was busy so it’s ok. Will be back to try a different style before I give my final judgement!

Simply amazing. I got a double steakburger with thick patties and it was super filling a unique delicious. Don’t sleep on the hot dog though. It tastes amazing on the toast bun. They have a little wheel that you can spin to get free stuff and discounts, which is why I got the fries. I ended up eating more food than I bargained for, but I’m glad I got the full experience.
I love Howlin Ray’s, but next time the line is long, I’m coming back here instead.

We had 2 Amboy burgers, the DH and slim thicc. Both were very good burgers. We enjoyed the slim thicc more because it’s more balanced than the DH which was very meat-forward.
Fries were very crispy and the portion was very generous.

Chinatown treasure with dry aged burger cooked to medium rare and well blended flavors. It’s probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Give it a try and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Insanely good! All the flavors came together in perfect harmony lol! The burger we had is $21 but you cant beat the quality and taste.
For me, it was worth the price especially they made this burger from their own dry aged beef. And the chilli fries is one of the best ive ever tried.

Good, but not great.
I was really looking forward to trying amboy given the hype surrounding it and Alvin’s reputation in the burger game. Flavors just fall a bit flat for me.
What I ordered: The DH (Amboy Style)
Everything was great except the patty. The DH comes medium rare (which I love btw), but 1/3 of the burger was rare. The biggest hurdle is the lack of flavor in the patty – needs to be seasoned.
8.5/10

They need to rename the Amboy fries to the Damboy fries! Because Damboy thesr fries are the best thing to hit Chinatown since Jackie Chan made Rush Hour! The burger was definitely the back-up singer to the beautiful solo act these fries sang for my taste buds! Plus If I got a redo Id get the single patty not the double patty. The bread at the bottom was soggy and it didn’t hold together well after my first bite! Great taste tho! Burger 7/10 fries 10/10
