after extensive research, I decided to take my family to Lucy for our first Ethiopian cuisine experience in Denver – and it did not disappoint. a solid 5 stars for flavor alone – the food is well worth the wait (20-30 min).
the meal is an experience of flavor and texture, ending in complete satiety and meant to be shared and eaten with the hands. not to mention an amazing value – you could feed a family of 3-4 for around $35.
we started with 2 veggie sambusas – a fried pocket pastry with a flaky crust and a filling of spiced peas. it was. delicious. the crust was perfectly flaky and they came out super fresh. the inside was spiced right and had a nice contrast to the crust.
the main feature was the veggie combo platter – it comes with most of their signature dishes and injera bread. the injera had a sour taste like sourdough bread. it was soft, spongy, and dreamy – they even offered us more when we finished ours. everything was DELICIOUS. I cannot say enough good.
we left incredibly satisfied. don’t come here in a rush. sit, enjoy the food, ideally with others.

If you haven’t tried this cuisine before then this is the perfect place to try. It seems like a lot of locals frequent this spot and for good reason. I got their beef and veggie platter and it was really good. The flavors weren’t crazy overpowering and it seemed healthy too. I like how it comes in a big platter to share. This was a home run but I wish they had lamb when I went. Guess I’ll have to come again. Oh and the sambusa was very flaky and crispy. Highly recommend starting off with those.

The FOOD was amazing! The staff was friendly and happy to explain the dishes. I personally loved the way she poured the food onto the platter. Made it extra special. I loved the Beef tips so much flavor and so juicy! I can’t wait to come back! Keep up the good work Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant!!!

Delicious food! We tried different dishes, and all of them were good. The kids enjoyed it very much, and so did we. Friendly service.

The restaurant was peaceful and quiet. The server was attentive and accommodating. The food was AMAZING! I do not eat spicy food but I couldn’t stop eating the lamb dish I had. I even ordered a plate TO GO

Pretty good food. Ordered doro wat and beef tibs. Beef was sort of sour, which she asked me if I liked. Only think I didn’t like was that the food all came on one piece of the spongy bread. So after about 15 minutes it was too soggy to eat that piece of the bread. But we had four or five other pieces with our two meals. Also seemed like Lucy was the only Ethiopian place open for lunch on Tuesday. Service was great. Only one waitress but only had two other groups in there when we were there.

Very lovely restaurant. A completely different cuisine experience with amazing flavors. Server was very nice and gave us direction since it was our first time eating ethiopian food. We enjoyed it a lot except our baby got very impatient, the food took a long time and by the time we got it he was having a hard time. Not sure if it takes this long, every time or because it was busy. We might try again when it’s just my husband and I. We got the veggie combo and the potatoes, since it was just us two they brought it in one plate to share, it was fun getting to try all the flavors.
