Social Profile:

History of The Koyen Collection In 1983 Ken Koyen, the proprietor of K.K. Fiske, built the Koyen Collection, which housed an assortment of businesses with various owners. The Other businesses at the time included Elderd Ellefson’s realty office, Julian Hagen’s ice cream shop, Laura Findley-Hagen’s jewelry shop, and a butchers shop and deli operated by Kirby Cornell. Eventually the other businesses moved on, leaving K.K. Fiske Restaurant to expand. K.K. (Ken’s initials) and Fiske (the Danish word for Fish) began as a shop to where sport fisherman could bring their catch to be cleaned, wrapped and smoked. Eventually evolving into a full scale restaurant which features locally sourced ingredients such as fresh Lake Michigan Whitefish.

First time on Washington Island and stopped in for lunch. Asked for a suggestion from the waitress and had the Kenny Sandwich with coleslaw. The slaw was very crisp and delicious. Some places have too much vinegar but this coleslaw is very well balanced and if its not made in-house it tastes like it is. The sandwich was very good and packed with flavor! Ill be back to the island and back to this restaurant.

Just about everything about this dining experience was a solid B+, which as a cumulative means it’s an A+.

Service / food speed wasn’t rapid, but it was well communicated and friendly.
Food was really really good, shy of perfect. I think everyone at my table was at least acceptably pleased if not downright impressed.
Atmosphere has both warm views and a old town charm, but also kind of strange decoration choices.

Also super generously priced beer (IMO), especially compare to many places in Sturgeon.

If you’re on the island, you really can’t go wrong coming here.

The fish was good, but the portion seemed small. I think they were understaffed that night, so only appetizers and express items were available, aside from the fish boil.

The pulled pork was okay — a bit pricey for what it was, and it came with chips instead of fries 🙁

That said, the person who attended to us was very nice, and the overall atmosphere felt friendly.

Their fish dinners are phenomenal (I recommend ALL of them when they’re available and/or the fish is in season), the drinks come a-plenty, and their service comes with a smile. What more can anyone ask? I’ve been driving up to the Island for over 20 years, and KK’s has and will always be my favorite spot up there. And once you’re done with your food, drink, and merriment, if they’re still open, take a walk across the street and grab some homemade fudge at the Mercantile for dessert.

Paid a visit recently on 07/13. Tried their Big Game elk burger, and it was hands down the best hamburger I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. Not an exaggeration. Perfectly cooked juicy elk patty with crisp lettuce, tart pickles, fragrant red onions, and a nice succulent tomato slice all in between 2 beautiful burger buns that could barely contain and absorb the delicious meat juices. Had to practically unhinge my jaw to take bites out of it and had greasy burger fluids dribbling down my chin and hands. Absolute, messy perfection. It also came with some nice crispy fries as well. We had a great dining experience, and our waitress was an absolute gem and a rockstar. Come check them out!

I got the Kenny which is blackened white fish with thousand island. Essentially a reuben sandwich. Loved it! I would get the same meal if I went back. Service was great despite being under staff. Host was friendly always checked in to make sure our food was good. And recommended places to visit on the island.

Great fish boil. The food was delicious, and wonderfully seasoned. Friendly and helpful service. They also have a very special house made unique chicken salad made with Door County cherries. Do not miss this local delicacy.

While you are there, be sure to sample their signature Madhattan cocktail, ask of which is locally sourced, and their delectable version of the Bloody Mary.

Saturday night is karaoke night.

We stopped for a drink ( so cant rate the food) and really liked the vibe of the place. Nice staff and plenty of places to sit in the bar area, with the restaurant separate. Looks like you can eat in the bar area. Also had a place for a band to play.

Quite possibly the best whitefish I’ve ever had! We ended up here last week during an off-season visit to the island and it was phenomenal! Super friendly staff and great drink selection, I ended up leaving with a bottle of the cherry apple cider. Bonus, they’re open year round– we’ll definitely be back!

The food was delicious. Not your typical bar food quality. The coleslaw was yummy, the chicken was juicy, the cheese curds were good and served w/ a very yummy homemade ranch. The place itself looks cool. There are games like darts, shuffleboard, pool table. Baseball game was on the TV. Bar tender was very friendly.

My favorite restaurant on Washington island. My wife and I ate here twice while staying on the island. This place was always open while some other restaurants close during the week. The staff is friendly. The food is great, large selection. We tried the fried walleye, firecracker shrimp and chicken salad. All of it tasted amazing. Food was cooked and brought out very quickly. There’s an area of seating with no windows which is nice for a warm summer day. Pool table and music. Family restaurant and enjoyable for a couple wanting a nice meal also. We will definitely eat here again when we visit Washington island again! Thanks for the hospitality and good food!
