A real homey and warm atmosphere. You could either sit outside by a fire or indoors. It was to cold, so we sat inside. I noticed the bar had several local brews on tap. My wife had the Philly Cheese Chicken Sandwich with Hushpuppies and I had the Fish and Chips. The fish was fried perfectly, and the home fries were incredible. I was able to have some of my wife’s Hushpuppies. They were incredible. We are definitely going back. They also have live music nights that we are interested in as well. I need to go back to sample the beer.

If you are coming through or near Spruce Pine, you need to stop. Great food fairly priced. Enjoy!

We stopped here for lunch. I ordered the Fish and Chips. The fish was good, but the texture was a little off. That said, I ate it all. My main issue was with the lax smoking rules. There is an “outdoor” dining area. But it has walls, roof, and blinds covering the windows. Instead of walking all the way outside, staff smokes in the outdoor dining area. Huge turn-off for a non-smoker.

It took us 15 minutes to place a call in order. Not 15 minutes wait before they took our, it took 15 minutes for her to enter our order into the system. We were told it would be a 30 min wait, which was fine with us. It actually took an hour. We were missing one entire dish which never made it onto the order and out of the 4 dishes we DID get only one was correct. To top it all off I found a hair in my take-out container. I’ll have to be very hungry and very desperate to go back.
*EDIT – I decided I’d give it another go, for lunch this time, as I was on this side of town and options are limited. Service was fast, food was really good. It’s a drive-through connected to a bar. I’ve never eaten inside so can’t comment on the atmosphere. My advice, if you get someone on the phone who sounds like they know what they’re doing you’re probably gonna get some pretty decent food. If you have issues with the phone person probably best to seek other options.

I’ve been eating here since I was a kid & even though I’ve since left the area, I always find myself coming back “home” for a cheeseburger all the way and a peanut butter milkshake! Also, the chuckwagon sandwich is an underrated gem. 10/10 would recommend!

Absolutely awesome place to stop for lunch. Recommended to us be one of the nearby residents. Started out life as just a drive-in, but has recently expanded to include a small bar/inside seating area. Food was excellent and service was really good too. One of the odd aspects of the setup is that the waitstaff have to go outside to the other building to put in orders and pick up food. The building is not the most well-insulated, because even in April it was pretty chilly. But between a wood stove and other heaters, it was warm enough. Just a very cool, unique place to eat. Will worth the trip.

City Drive-in has the very best of the classic cook out burgers. We decided to take the hour and a half drive to Spruce Pines just because when you want a city Drive-in burger there is no substitute. The Chuckwagon is a go-to, but I highly recommend the Mushroom Swiss burger.

We sat at the outside porch seating and the BBQ cooking near by had up planning our next visit

***Pro tip….after eating walk around a couple of the nearby antique shops and work off a little of your lunch/dinner then swing back by for a peanut butter milkshake

Absolutely the worst BBQ I have had in a long time, they did not even bother to drain all the grease off. The potato salad was nothing but potatoes and mayonnaise. Maybe some of their other food is good but I would not recommend the barbecue.

Update: After I left the restaurant, I looked at my ticket and found a very interesting description of myself.
I was described as a black round guy. I am far from that I am a relatively thin white person.
When I commented to the waitress about the barbecue being greasy and not very good, a person at the table next to me said they had barbecue as well. I asked them if theirs was covered in grease, she said she didn’t know, she had a barbecue sandwich.
I’m really starting to wonder if my description had anything to do with the bad food I was served.
This is a small town and I think this place is more geared towards the locals and don’t much care for outsiders.

New Year’s Day special wasn’t that good. A 1/2 piece of ham wasn’t worth the money! Sorry but that’s the first bad meal I’ve had there! Just not my day!

The most mid overpriced food with the smallest portions. Placed a to go order and ordered 2 cheeseburgers with 2 LARGE orders of tater tots, got home and opened the bag to find 2 large bags with seven tater tots a piece in them. SEVEN! What is a small there? 2 tater tots?! Not worth the money lol just go to B&Cs.
