So I ordered two banh mi from this place.
For the price, the amount of meat was very little, while there was way too much carrot and taste very old both ingredients and the sandwich itself. And it’s supposed to be Vietnamese banh mi, but it didn’t taste Vietnamese at all.
Each sandwich only had one tiny cilantro leaf — not even a full sprig, just a single leaf.
I felt very disappointed, so I rated it one star. Isn’t that the point of reviews — to share honest experiences?
Why does giving a one-star rating automatically mean it’s a “fake review”? That doesn’t make sense.
1 star for product, 0 star for customer service while you are being very mean to customer.
Back at the hotel, I took a sip and it was literally just black iced coffee so I called the store, and she said she’d make me a new one… but why not listen the first time? She then hung up on me, which was incredibly rude. Begrudgingly, I went back and she had already prepared another drink saying that I should’ve asked for extra sweet? But based on the attitude and the whole interaction, I didn’t trust it and threw it out in the end.
Experience so awful I felt compelled to share.
We ordered through Uber and were instructed to call the restaurant for any allergy related inquires. So I called, and the staff on the other end answered by just saying “hello”. There was no clarification that I was calling the restaurant. Anyway, I proceeded and inquired about whether any of their banh mi varieties contained sesame, and specifically asked about their gochujang marinade and teriyaki marinade. The staff member sounded puzzled and said there was no gochujang style banh mi, even though there are several varieties of this on their menu. I asked if they could just tell me whether there ade any banh mi options that don’t contain sesame, to which they said “I don’t know”. I asked if they could look into this and they responded “I’d have to ask the owner” followed by a long pause, like I was somehow inconveniencing them by asking a question and hoping for an answer. I literally had to ask if they could get this information for me. It is obviously understandable to not know what items contain what allergens off the top of your head but my experience has always been that someone puts me on hold while they go ask the kitchen, I’ve never had to ask for someone to do this. They agreed to ask the owner but I had to call back. These are unfortunately the kind of experiences that make allergy sufferers hesitant eat out at places.
In terms of the food, the coconut red curry was absolutely delicious. And to be clear, I was given an answer on the allergens and my partner had no issues with his any of is food containing any sesame. However the banh mi’s themselves were unfortunately very underwhelming. I got the lemongrass tofu bahn mi and could not detect any flavour on the tofu whatsoever and there was so little mayo I had to add more. My partner said his lemongrass chicken one also tasted bland.
I think this restaurant has so much potential. Again, the prices are really decent, it’s centrally located and has a lot of options. I just think their food needs some fine tuning and the service needs improving.
