I visited this restaurant a few weeks ago and I’ve been bothered ever since. Just wanted to try the Eggs Benedict as it was recommended by a friend. And as promised, it was amazing!! The service was great too! Efficient and pleasant!!
The reason for the one star was the atmosphere. I was only in there for less than 40 minutes and I could not believe how loud the kitchen was and how verbally abusive and nasty they are to their wait staff. Absolutely blew my mind! There was a woman yelling and cursing at the servers out back. I couldn’t believe it and I couldn’t believe no one said anything. I’ve asked around since and apparently this is an ongoing thing. Oddly enough there’s a Confederate flag carved into one of the chairs but that’s just a random observation. I don’t know how anyone can go in there and enjoy a wonderful breakfast with incredible staff only to hear them being berated in the back. It’s absolutely disgusting!
If I do venture back in there, and hear the same thing, I will say something!!

Solid breakfast served quickly and with a smile. It’s mostly locals in the early morning – lot fills with pickup trucks. Then a steady flow of tourists, locals and shoppers (LL Bean is just down the street). Food was cooked precisely and was delicious. Not many frills, but it’s clean and priced competitively. Very happy every visit.

I have driven by the Sunrise Cafe 100 times but never went in because a wasn’t excited by the curb appeal. But, you know what they say: “never judge a book by its cover…” and I am so glad I came in today because WOW did I find a hidden gem. My waitress, Brittany, was an absolute joy! The food was fantastic… it wasn’t greasy… on the contrary, everything was fresh (the berries were perfect and the corned beef hash is “world famous” for a reason). Special requests: no problem. I will absolutely be back here and looking for Brittany again (although I presume all the staff are great)! Glad to say that I just found my new favorite breakfast spot in Freeport, Maine!

I ate here almost every day I was in the area. I was sat as soon as I walked in every time. By day 3 they knew to bring me coffee and water. My coffee cup stayed full. They have PLANT BASED sausage! I tried most things on the menu but the California omelet was my favorite! If I am ever in the area again I will 100% eat here with no questions asked! Service was fast. Food was fast. & both were excellent!

This probably isn’t going to be a fair review because I’m comparing them to a much better place down the road. I stopped in here because the Freeport Cafe was lined up out the door, and there’s a reason for that. The food here was OK, but the portion sizes were a bit small for the price. It wasn’t as tasty either, or as filling. I don’t usually care about the decor, but the Freeport Cafe blows them away here too, also nice views of the marsh and surroundings. I’m glad I tried something different, but I should have waited for a seat at the Freeport Cafe instead. All that being said, if I were to between here and McDonald’s, I would choose here.

Very good for the price. They even have vegan breakfast sausages. I would definitely come back if I ever come back to Freeport. Waitresses were nice. The service was quick and efficient.

A decent place, during my visit it took about 20 minutes to get my breakfast (late saturday, around 1100) which felt a little too long. The eggs bene were slightly undercooked as well. Menu is a little limited. Interior was tidy, pleasant and cheerful. Staff were all very friendly. Not sure if this or the Freeport Cafe is better. Inclined tor try the latter again.

Great value for an excellent breakfast. I originally thought beans were a weird thing to get for breakfast, but boy was I wrong. Dare I say the beans were so darn good they’re the #1 thing I’d recommend you try out although don’t worry – all of their other breakfast food is also great. Plus the service was fantastic so that’s an extra bonus.

The Sunrise breakfast, home made hash and biscuits (grilled). Make sure you upgrade, you won’t be disappointed.
