El Balbiquiu – Review – North Bay Village – Miami – The Infatuation

El Balbiquiu is a great Puerto Rican barbecue spot in North Bay Village. It’s casual and just about everything is delicious.

“Genuinely unbelievable!” is what I heard another guest remark during my meal and truer words couldn’t have been spoken. The food in this local eatery is excellent. Great music, nice decor, warm and friendly environment. The Alcapurria is something I frequently search for in this city and I’m constantly disappointed, but thankfully this was not the case at El Balbiquiu. The portion is also generous (something I found with all the items we ordered). The BBQ sauce had a beautiful hint of thyme and perfect sweetness. The Rib meat literally fell Off the bone. The definition of tender. I can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend this place. Do not miss out on their food.

So, so delicious. We love it here so much… it’s really not good for my waistline! you can’t even pick up the ribs by the bone because the meat just melts right off. The chicharron is crispy but melty at the same time, and the wings are amazing too! The food is amazing not only because it’s actually delicious but also because you can tell it was made with love. Family photos are hung all over the wells, and it truly feels like you’re a part of it when you eat here. Twice they’ve been sold out of the brisket so we haven’t been able to try that yet. I guess that just means we have to go back again!

This place is bomb. Every dish was tasty, every part welol seasoned. We tried the ribs, pulled pork, mofongo with chicken and mac and queso, coleslaw and fries for sides. My daughter begged me for another side of mac and we barely left a crumb on the plate. Here for 2 days and debating going back. It’s definitely worth a try. Sorry I didn’t take pictures: once I started eating I couldn’t stop.

The food is absolutely spectacular. Great selection of high quality Puerto Rican BBQ. And did I mention that the food is amazing. It was soo good, that we made sure to have leftovers for breakfast the next day. Definitely worth a try.

OMG!! I just ordered the chicharrones w/vegetables to go. Hands down the BEST pork belly and vegetables I have ever had in my life! Thank goodness I live a few blocks away.
The vegetables are a combination of Brussels sprouts and asparagus, seasoned with cranberries and pumpkin seeds (I think) they have tangynish taste…. sublime! The pork belly is soft but crunchy, and smoky, cooked to perfection. Thank you!

We came for my birthday and had an amazing time. The food was delicious and the service was great. We loved the mac and cheese, brisket, ribs, veggies, corn, cole slaw, chicharrón. We tried a bunch of the dishes in a group and were impressed.

Perhaps there’s a delicious irony to enjoying juicy BBQ after coming from a full moon yoga meditation but the smoky meats at El Balbiquiu are heaven for a carnivore’s taste buds!

I had seen this spot during many previous drives through North Bay Village and had the opportunity to stop by after last night’s event. It’s located right on 79th Street and shares a parking lot with a couple of other restaurants, and a bar. The space is cozy and has an artistic vibe, with neon, paintings of boricua artists such as Hector Lavoe and a couple of TV’s (the baseball playoffs were on last night.)

In addition to the southern bbq classics (ribs, chicken and pulled pork) El Balbiquiu also serves Puerto Rican staples like mofongo. Even their classics have a bit of fusion such as the half chicken I enjoyed (and saved some for takeout). This tender, juicy roasted chicken was seasoned in a mix of au jus and chimichurri. It had plenty of meat falling off the bone, and of course I added some classic bbq sauce. (They also sell a pineapple one I need to come back and try.) Their baby back ribs was my other course, and that meat was also deliciously smoked and really flavorful. Since I essentially went for a sampler of ribs and chicken, I ended up with takeout from both.

For my sides, I tried both the mac & cheese as well as fries. The mac and cheese was my favorite, since it also had a spicy kick courtesy of the adobo crust. The fries were also yummy as well, especially with its garnish and bbq sauce.
