Moving along….
We ended up here because the Mediterranean Breeze was closed. So, we decided to drive across the street to Red Line Diner. I have wanted to try this place for years and have seen mixed reviews, so today was the day I gave it a shot.
When we arrived there were only two tables with occupants (red flag). I immediately went to the bathroom to wash up. I noticed that the bathroom was filthy especially the floors (red flag #2). I decided to notice the floors back to my table and they weren’t much better. Very, very filthy. Must’ve not been mopped in weeks/months, I don’t know.
I spoke out loud to my husband that I hope the kitchen wasn’t as bad, and he quickly hushed me. We were starving and so were the kids, so we decided to stay.
Here’s what we ordered:
A double cheeseburger with onion rings that my husband and I shared. I thought it was great because I love salt, or maybe I was just hungry. My husband thought they were frozen, not fresh patties and overly salted so much that he couldn’t even consume it. He handed the rest out for the kids to try. When I tried the patty without the toppings, it actually was really salty. The onion rings were good, and I believe they may be homemade, however, they were undercooked and I could almost taste/feel raw batter. Easy fix though. Just cook until golden brown.
My husband and I also tried the Philly pizza. I thought it was decent, but that crust was somehow undercooked as well. It wasn’t bad.
The kids had chicken Alfredo and Cajun pasta. They both enjoyed what they had, but the penne in the Cajun pasta had a mush texture according to my 17 year old. So, I’m guessing the penne was over cooked. Also, easy fix. They enjoyed the sauce.
We took home fried Oreos, turtle cheesecake, and baklava.
Oreos: more batter than cookie. Tasted like a fried pancake not Oreo.
Turtle cheesecake: my favorite thing they had there.
Baklava: HORRIBLE! They deep fried it I guess to freshen it up, or maybe that’s what they do? But, because of that, the philo absorbed all the cooking oil, and that’s EXACTLY what it tasted like.
My husband rates it a 2/10, and he’ll eat almost anything. Not picky at all.
On another note, our sever was polite, and everything was made fresh to order.
Good food & good conversation
The build your own pizza was delicious as well as the onion rings. We had chocolate peanut butter cake for dessert. It was very good.
The service was fast, and our server was attentive and friendly.
The surprise was the wonderful desserts they served. I had a lemon berry cake, and they had a chocolate chip cake. Thus is a great place.
The service and food was very good and the prices reasonable.
We kept our food selections basic (cheeseburgers and fries) rules I have always lived by when traveling long distances into unfamiliar places but it was really good!
If anyone’s passing through the area I recommend popping in and eating there
