We had an excellent meal here and opted for the 7 course taster menu. The other option is 5 course. They provided 3 small pre dinner bites. The 7 courses were excellent and expertly cooked. Each course offered something different ranging from vegetable, fish, meat and ending in dessert. There’s a lovely wine selection and the option to have a wine flight with your meal. I’m a coeliac and they adapted some of the courses. Make sure you book! It’s a lovely quaint place, understated but superb. We’ll definitely visit again when we’re back in Edinburgh. Highly recommended.

Had a 5-course meal with wine pairing. Food was excellent and cooked to perfection. Didn’t take any pictures until the end. We really enjoyed every course. The origin of the wine was shared. However, one thing I had to compare from previous experiences with menu tasting with wine pairing was the missing explanation of what taste to observe/expect and how it paired with the meal/food. Aside from that, it was a great night with excellent food and service.

We came here on a Saturday for lunch since dinner reservations were not available. We opted for the three course menu, but they provided two additional small courses that made it feel more like a five course. In addition, they provide providers, freshly baked yeast rolls with butter. The restaurant is small and down some stairs into a basement type of area. The decoration is minimalist and the space is tight (perhaps eight tables for two?). We felt completely full with just the three servings, but of course wished that we had the time and appetite to have experienced the full seven courses as people next to us we’re having those and they seemed fantastic.

Superb. I’m from Australia and thankfully had the pleasure t o eat here. Every restaurant I go to now will be compared to Purslane. And let me tell you a Michelan restaurant we went to in Yorkshire had nothing on Purslane.
Keep up the excellent work .

This is one of the very best restaurants I have eaten in – and I have been in Michelin starred ones twice. The food was absolutely amazing, the flavours really worked together beautifully and everything was prepared to perfection.
There is not much choice (5- or 7-course set menu, and not massive choice in drinks either), so you have to be ok with that. We had the seven courses, plus an optional (shared) cheese board. And it’s not just the seven courses – we were brought food four times (little nibbles and wonderful sweet yeasty bread) before we even got the first course! We also got some sweets to take home afterwards. We loved each course and each extra bit.
The room is a bit small with relatively close tables. It’s still very comfortable and cosy but I went down to 4 stars for Atmosphere rather than 5. No tacky Christmas music which was very welcome.

Birthday celebration in one of our favourite restaurants. Never disappoints. Gorgeous food (we had the 5 course tasting menu), hugely accommodating of our food preferences, superb service and a fantastic vibe with great background music.

Best meal we had in Edinburgh. Lovely small and cosy restaurant. We had the launch special + wine pairing (20£ for 2 dishes, 40£ including wine pairing). We got the carrot, pork, cod and gnocchi dishes. The carrot dish with the goat cheese ice cream was our favorite. The service was very professional and welcoming, the wine pairing was thoughtfully curated (I appreciated that the sommelier explained the reason for matching each wine to each dish, which showed deep understanding of the wines and the dishes served). We enjoyed the meal so much that we ordered both the cheeses and dessert (didn’t disappoint). I think it is great value for money for the food quality we got.

Without a doubt the best restaurant / fine dining experience I have ever had. Honestly, it was amazing. My hubby and I enjoyed the 7-course taster menu. Every mouthful was a taste sensation. Every course was my ‘favourite’. The wine/spirits and own-label gin were the cherry on the top. The service was top-notch. In such an intimate venue, I felt relaxed and looked after all night. I can’t wait to return as I daydream about the dishes constantly now. What can I say, I’m a foodie! It’s no surprise the restaurant has special mentions in The Telegraph, Scotland on Sunday and The Michelin Guide. If you are a foodie like me, it’s unmissable!

Great value fine dining in a cosy personal restaurant. There’s a a choice of 5 course or 7 course (same menu plus two more dishes). Go for 7 courses if you’re hungry or curious. Every dish was perfectly cooked and elegant. They are not necessarily trying to do Michelin fanciness levels, but some great cookery that would be hard to replicate for home cooks. For example a deep fried polenta dish that stays rich and creamy on the inside but has a nice crispy shell on the outside.
The hake was also beautiful. The beef to end the main part of the menu was perhaps a tad too rich and unctuous, I’d add a pickled element or substitute the caramelized onions for something a bit lighter. Desert was just right for me, rhubarb not too sweet. And they allowed us to substitute one of our deserts for the cheese plate, which was also generous enough for 2, with plenty of oat cakes and crackers.
Staff were great and we had a nice natter. There’s only about 6 tables so it feels very personal, and you need to book.
