I loved visiting Cambodia and was so excited to try Khmai and wow, this restaurant was truly phenomenal. The waiter was one of the best I have ever had anywhere in the world: kind, friendly, and incredibly personable, taking the time to explain every menu item with care.

I shared the Sang Ko Ang Share Plate with my mom, and it exceeded all expectations. It was a perfect option for two and a great value for such a generous, satisfying meal to share. It came with a soothing soup and one of the largest ribs I’ve ever seen—tender, fall-off-the-bone meat paired with peppers, potatoes, and pickles, all drenched in a perfectly balanced sweet chili and BBQ sauce! WOW! Delicious. The flavors were bold, comforting, and completely unique.

This meal was such an unexpected and memorable experience. I’m so happy I got to enjoy such a great meal with my mom at Khmai during her time in Chicago.

Everyone there was genuinely kind, which made the experience even more special. I couldn’t recommend it enough. ❤️

What an experience! We learned tonight that we love Cambodian food. Everything was delicious. The highlights were the mango salad and the braised short ribs. Sooo good. The service was amazing as well. Everyone was so nice, friendly and knowledgeable. We will be returning. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Lunch at the more casual Kaun Khmai was great – tasty, generous portions, and paired with excellent service

We ordered a range of items across their menu, including the kari sach morn and loc lac from the traditional specialties, the bai cha fried rice, and the pandan waffles. Everything was solid, and the bai cha was a particular highlight (along with the housemade ube syrup to accompany the pandan waffle)

Our service was also exceptional: Kenzo was welcoming, attentive, knowledgeable – the definition of great hospitality

What an amazing experience!! Currently, they’re only BYOB but the mocktail flights were absolutely delicious – there was a ginger beer, lychee and a third one was a coconut lemongrass one.

For food, for our group – our favorites included Beef Skewers (Sach Koh Ang), Pork Belly (Chein Sach Chrouk), Mai’s Eggrolls, Noodles (Cha Mee Katang), and definitely this super delicious shreeded mango salad with crispy fried tilapia on top. We also tried the prahok kitss (grilled pork belly and gorund pork dip) that was interestingly served with vegetables and fruit. We also had their Khmai famous curry that was simmered in coconut curry broth. The only dish that fell a little short for us was the Sach Ko Ang which was braised beef ribs as the meet was a little tough and the BBQ sauce was okay. But everything was absolutely fabulous that it was easily overlooked. Service was friendly and was able to explain the menu and dishes to us as it was our first time having Cambodian food. Can’t wait to come back again!

The food here at the reservation fine dining Khmai was much better than many of the restaurants we ate at in downtown Siem Reap in Cambodia itself. The flavors were outstanding as well as the sauces and all of the dishes were a hit, as well as big enough to share. We ran the menu which was a short a la carte menu,, for our table of four, but there is also a tasting menu option. Be sure to specify if you want the fine dining option versus the more casual Kaun Khmai sister restaurant next door with a different menu when making reservations. The staff is pleasant, but seems a bit new. Hopefully will be smoother with more experience. The food clearly outshines any minor service hiccups. Interesting location on Sheridan Avenue in Rogers Park in the middle of Loyola’s campus, but definitely not a college students hangout.

Delicious brunch! I tried the Howard St location for dinner once and was happy to them reopen in Roger’s Park. We enjoyed the pandas waffles/sach mom, kuy teav tuk, and steak bai. Woah… everything was so full of flavor. 20/10. No comment. The lychee cola was light and refreshing. We also shared a side of the kreoung potatoes. Scrumptious!!! Bonus points for being on inkind— I’ll be back. ‍↔️

This is my first try on Cambodian food. OMG totally impressed! Food is super delicious . The sauce on the food is extremely tasty. Falling in love with this restaurant immediately! My favorite restaurant in Chicago. I live in New York City but have to say this restaurant beats most Asian ones in nyc. Please everyone should also try the dessert here!

Enjoyed a birthday dinner here on Sat night, and it did not disappoint. Too many good dishes tried to list, but overall vibrant, Incredible flavors, beautiful presentation and very good value for the cost. Our waiter was super solid, with recommendations and descriptions at the ready. It will be a regular haunt for my family going forward! Would highly recommend 🙂

This was hands down one of the best dinners I’ve ever had. The food exceeded my expectations. Service was sublime. The atmosphere was lively. We dined on the street food/casual side. I love how there’s two different sides. Now I feel confident to try the fine dining/tasting menu side. Counting the days until I return.

I accidentally made our reservation for 3 instead of 5 so we ended up having to sit at the bar because they were all booked up, but it was honestly still worth it. They made sure to sit us at the corner so our party of 5 could still easily talk and share our food together. I wish i was able to get more pictures of the food but it was so good that i kept forgetting. Very unique experience with a twist on authentic Cambodian food and strong flavors. The menu is more seafood based but they have many options available as far as other meats like chicken and steak plus a few vegetarian options as well. We shared a few small plates and a few other dishes plus the main courses all together. Our waiter and bartender helped us pick what dishes to order and what would be best for sharing and of course what he recommended based on some of our preferences. The drinks we ordered were from the new menu which were also very fun and on the sweeter side – which I enjoyed. We sat on the causal dining side but next time we plan on sitting on the formal side which I believe has a slightly different menu.
