To be a restaurant open for lunch in Eastern Market, you have to somehow cater to adults and children alike. It’s hard to do, but Little Engine does it well. Popping in for a late lunch on a Sunday in March, here’s my nine-year-old daughter and my experience.

1) Food: To feed us both, we ordered the kids quesadilla and the adult one. The kids meal comes with chicken inside, which my daughter usually doesn’t love, but she did this time. The fries that it comes with are wedges and tasty. Ask for their ranch sauce to dip them in. The adult pulled chicken quesadilla comes with a great lime crema on top.

2) Drinks: They have bottled water, Coca-Cola products in cans, lemonades, and more. They even have Fanta!

3) Service: It’s excellent! The person behind the register was patient and helpful.

4) Space: It’s small, but there are several booths and window seating. With big windows, lots of natural light pours in. The walls are decorated with baseball cards and old CDs giving it a retro vibe. There are two unisex restrooms in the back that don’t require a code.

5) Area: Even when it’s busy, you will eventually find street parking nearby. On weekdays, I usually find a spot along 8th Street SE a block away. Another option is to park in the Trader Joe’s garage free for 60 minutes with a purchase.

Absolutely phenomenal chicken and a great addition to the neighborhood! I very highly recommend the spicy cabbage crunch wrap and the hush puppies; but, honestly the entire menu is absolute fire. The rotisserie chicken has some fantastic and unique rubs and spices that are just pure ambrosia, the quesadillas are really flavorful, and the steak fries are amazing!

For kids, the menu hits the spot with picky eaters. The restaurant also has a hotwheel little library to both occupy the kids while you wait for your food and give you a place to drop off hotwheels for other kids!

Brand new spot in eastern market and wow, it did not disappoint. I got the 4×4 with dark meat and 4 sichuan wings. The wings were crisp and the chicken tender and moist. The potato wedges were crisp and perfectly salted. The whole place has a cool collectible store/ toy store vibe. I will definitely be coming back.

PERFECT WEEKNIGHT DINNER. rotisserie chicken and wings with sides (salads, fries etc). Perfect for the whole family. Do NOT sleep on the hushpuppies. Best bite of the night.

This new spot from Rob Sonderman (of Federalist Pig and Honeymoon Chicken) is doing everything all right.

In two visits I’ve had the wings and rotisserie chicken, both cooked perfectly. The rotisserie was juicy and tender while the wings are large, crispy and well breaded.

The buffalo, Szechuan and guava glaze sauces are all unique and balanced flavors that are strong recommends. The buffalo sauce on the rotisserie chicken, which comes with a tortilla, was a great combination that the staff recommended.

For the sides, the hush puppies are the instant favorite, but not a single one has missed. The garlic parm potato wedges with chicken drippings are the perfect example of how a dish you may have had elsewhere is elevated here. Every item was clearly well thought out and executed perfectly.

The end result is a place I’ll be back to often.

This chicken is delicious! Two days ago I got the 1/4 rotisserie plate with the guava glaze sauce and the blistered snap peas. Get the tortilla and wrap the chicken and pickled red onions in it, then dip in the glaze! Tonight, I’m picking up for the whole family, as they are going to love it.

The Little Engine that DOES! I’ve long sought a good buffalo wing spot in DC, hailing from Pittsburgh where buffalo-flavored menu items abound. Little Engine serves more than just buffalo wings of course, but if crispy, tender, juicy, buffalo wings and ranch are what you’re missing, know Little Engine’s got you! Service was friendly, portions were generous, and the millenial-coded decor adds to the charm. Very excited to welcome you to the Eastern Market neighborhood and will be back!
