Had the pleasure of eating at PhatBoyz today. Started with the buffalo garlic wings as an appetizer – DELICIOUS! Then got my entree, I enjoyed a half pound of sliced beef brisket! I can’t stop raving about that brisket with crinkle cut fries. They have Pepsi products and plenty of beer options. You can’t go wrong there! Liz was my waitress and she was very helpful and came with a friendly smile. James is doing a great job with the place! Enjoyable, welcoming atmosphere as well! Thanks again!

Some folks get BBQ spot-on perfect, but not often. James Hunt at Phatboys BBQ in Kewannee, Illinois is one of the leaders of that pack. His attention to quality and serving only world-class barbecue is too often rare in today’s restaurant universe. BBQ ribs are made fresh daily and never re-heated. They are served after 4:00PM, currently Tuesday through Saturday. Also open at 11:00AM for lunch with a;iced or chopped brisket that is executed to BBQ perfection. If you want to experience BBQ Nirvana then this is your stop.
I sincerely hope the folks in Kewannee realize what a truly special place thos is and how well the BBQ is prepared and served. Job well done to James and his staff, Top-Notch.

Waited three weeks so they could get the bugs worked out, Thought it would not be fair to leave a review in the first month of being open as a new Business. The food was great. The service was good only critique would be when the host takes your name down for a 20 minute wait, give customer some direction on where they can wait and how they will know when the table is ready. I think it would be handy for the business to have a cell phone to txt customers “table is ready” from a business standpoint.

Me and my wife went in shortly before dinner time. The waitstaff was amazing, very kind and even caught any mistakes before we noticed. We got the breaded mushrooms which were amazing, well seasoned, hot and had a nice crisp to them. The smothered chicken was delicious being covered in cheese, onions and mushrooms gave it a nice blend of texture and flavor. The pulled pork was very moist and allowed for your own choice of BBQ sauce to finish it off. The seasoned fries, potatoe salad and mac & cheese were all fantastic. I hope to return soon to their great food, great team and comfortable environment.

Ribs fell right off the bone. A touch of spice. Delicious BBQ and smoked flavor. Pulled pork was moist and very good. Cole slaw was crunchy and sweet. Beans were a bit sweet and different than regular baked beans. Prices were very good. Especially these days. Service was friendly and quick. Loved the decor. The tables had a flame like color to them. Great open floor and had windowed garage doors that lead to their outside seating. Great place

I think the best quality was the service! The waitress checked on us several times & was wonderful, the food was out in a great amount of time, & I really think it’s nice the food is brought out from the kitchen staff to the tables. It was busy with most tables full, but you’d never know they were that busy with how spot on the service was! Our food also tasted great & the portions were definitely large! Great job! I gave atmosphere a 4 only because it was pretty loud in the restaurant.

Waited a decent amount of time for our food, in truth I could have gone a life time without eating this.
Pros. Staff was friendly, if not a bit overwhelmed but friendly. The ribs were tender. This is where the pros end. As they were Boiled not smoked.
Cons, Pulled pork was dry and flavorless, brisket was pulled? Why I have no idea but I would have been fine with that had it too not been dry and flavorless. Sauce was as close to kraft as you could get. Not a single side was made in house, I did ask. Mac and cheese tastes like the bagged stuff from Casey’s, Cole slaw is clearly from a tub, and potato salad is absolutely store bought.(I did ask if it was made in house and was told yes, it absolutely is not) and the corn muffin that comes with the meal was cold and prepackaged as well.
The burger my table ordered was lack luster at best but edible. It was the All American.
The fries were hot and crispy so that is a plus.
As for the atmosphere, it was that of a five bar. Loud and rather difficult to be comfortable in. There is nothing that dampened the echo so all the chatter combined to make this extremely loud, almost to the point of being unable to hear the other person at my table.
For this price point I expect better, if not quality then flavor.

I ate lunch here on Tuesday, October 8th. My hairstylist at the Curl Studio on Second St recommended it to me after my appointment with her. I am so happy she recommended it to me.
They did not have brisket or pulled pork available, so I ordered mac n cheese with a tenderloin. I can say that it was delicious and probably one of the best tenderloins I’ve ever had. The waitstaff is very kind and very efficient. The beer is cold! Restaurant is clean and pleasant.
Prices are reasonable and I was very full and happy with my meal. Thank you for a great experience!

The food was absolutely amazing! I ordered the Phat Mac so I could also try the differed meat, everything was so tasty and the portions were big. Our waitress, Adriana, was the best! She was on top of it, pleasant, sociable, she new the menu items and you could tell she enjoyed working there. Nice atmosphere. Looked like they have plenty of help which we all know, it’s hard to find that anymore. They also have outside seating. I enjoyed it very much and can’t wait to get back and try another menu item! So glad to see them in Kewanee!
