I can only give this a 5 ! Discovered the cheesesteak sandwich in summer 1981. I get one every time I come home and it hasn’t changed it’s filling deliciousness! The pizzas are better than the popular chains as customizations with hearty meat and cheese options make it personal to your dining experience. This place is a hidden cuisine gem!

Great customer service, terrible food. We ordered pizza, cheese sticks, cheesy bread, and onion rings. The food is edible but not good. I’ve had better pizza at a public elementary school cafeteria….literally. I don’t know how they have the reviews they do.

My sister lives in a small town in lower Alabama. They have three restaurants. When I visit, she’ll recommend one of them, and when I ask if they’re any good, she always smiles and replies “It’s not bad”. .. From my sister I have learned to NEVER eat at a place described as “It’s not bad”, because, it is almost always not good either. There’s simply too much gray area in the description “It’s not bad”. Truthful? Yes. Good? No.
The reviews of Anthony’s are good, 4.5 stars. Ah, Google reviewers, you fooled me again…
I ordered two large single-topping pizzas and an order of garlic cheese bread. I threw away one and three-quarters pizzas and an order of garlic cheese bread. One pepperoni pizza, one mushroom pizza.
First Impression – Appearance: Someone took the order of “one pepperoni pizza” and “one mushroom pizza” literally. These looked like they had ONE pepperoni on the pizza and ONE mushroom on the other pizza. Technically, they weren’t wrong…
Second Impression – Taste: Both pizzas had sauce that was salty even for smoked herring. I’m taking the pizza across the street, not from Britain to India on a schooner in the 1700’s… Arrrr, gimme me mead boy, I be eatin’ Anthony’s pizza…
Third Impression – Texture: Oil. Lots of oil. While the center of the pizza was practically uncuttable due to it, the car is ready for the trip home and the door hinges on the closets no longer squeak.
Cheesy garlic bread. I would describe it but just look at the picture. Any oil left that didn’t make it on the pizzas ended up in the bread. It was so soggy with oil (or oil-flavored butter), I couldn’t bring myself to even take a bite. Instead, I showed it mercy and just put it out of its misery.
Lastly, I was informed they will be moving. The building is being torn down, and when they know where they’re moving to, they’ll let us know. Yeahhhhh…. I don’t want to know. Let’s keep it a secret and I’ll pretend you’ve hidden yourself so well I just can never find you…
Anthony’s Italian Restaurant & Pizza. It’s not bad.

This is the best Italian place in Mechanicsville and has been for 20 some years that I’ve been frequented them!!! Not only are their prices cheap ….the entrees full and the food is fantastic!!! This place even had a generator running and opened up during hurricane Gaston several years back. They were one of the very few places that opened. We had fantastic food and could warm the leftovers up on our grill!!!! I guarantee we ate better than most people during that hurricane!!! If you want fantastic staff…. service and food come to Anthony’s! I’ve never had anything wrong or bad at this restaurant from a to z.

First time ordering from here. Placed a delivery order for their pizza special, cheesecake, and chicken Parm & it was all so yummy. Arrived fresh and hot. The only downside and I believe it was due to the delivery but my pizza looked like it had been tossed around. Even still it was great. The prices are affordable and the portions are good too.

Anthony’s is WONDERFUL! Our food is always ready at the agreed-upon time and the quality is great. It’s a little hole in the wall but the food is good. I’ve gotten the Philly steak and cheese on a wrap and on a wheat sub roll and both times pretty satisfied. Onion rings are also good. Their prices are reasonable and their staff is friendly. I have never, however, chosen to dine in so my experiences are based on take out orders only.

Visiting Mechanicsville from Fairfax and just wanted some good food with no fuss. Anthony’s was wonderful! Don’t let the humble decor deter you; the food was delicious and the service exceptional. Also very fairly priced. Enjoy!

The food was excellent there were 6 of us in our party. Service was great they make you feel right at home. I had the Greek Salad and it was so good I wanted to lick the plate. One had a small pizza, another had spaghetti, chicken and broccoli alfredo, ziti and a steak and cheese sub, everything was perfect and was ready at the same time. They have the coldest beer any where around. I would rate the food and service 10 out of 10
