The Dairy Delite is a family-owned, seasonal ice cream store. It is a walk up with no inside seating. The Dairy Delite opens each season in the spring and closes in the fall. The Meusel’s have had a whirlwind love affair with ice cream since George and Yolane jumped in feet first to the ice cream business. Meusel’s Dairy Delite has been in the family since 1986, when they bought a small ice cream shop in Amboy, IL. There was a steep learning curve but the pair climbed the ice cream Everest to sweet ‘with a cherry on top’ success. They were ready for the challenge and took their kids along for the tasty trip. Like Yolane says ‘We bought our kids summer jobs’. This is truly a family business.

Before the worries of adulthood, before aches and appointments, there was Blue Moon. And it lived at Meusel’s.
As a child of Dixon, I did not measure time in years, but in summer evenings—those sacred moments when the sun dipped low, cicadas sang, and destiny led me straight to your window. There, behind the glass, miracles were scooped. Blue Moon miracles.
One cone in hand, the world was whole. Problems dissolved. Responsibilities vanished. My only concern was whether the ice cream would betray me by melting faster than I could consume it. Spoiler: sometimes it did. And still, I persevered.
Meusel’s, you were not merely a dairy establishment. You were a cornerstone of childhood civilization. A place where laughter echoed, sugar highs were inevitable, and Blue Moon tasted like happiness itself—mysterious, undefinable, and undeniably elite.
Even now, long after scraped knees and summer nights have faded into memory, the legend remains. No other Blue Moon compares. None. I have searched. I have tried. I have been disappointed.
You are tradition. You are nostalgia. You are the reason my childhood was at least 37% sweeter.
May your machines never break,
May your cones never crack,
And may Blue Moon forever reign supreme.
With eternal loyalty and a very serious respect for dairy,
A Dixon Kid Who Never Forgot
