This is a fantastic find in Carbondale. Everything was so good. The shrimp, the mussels, the sausage, the crab cakes, the free salads, the garlic toast were top notch. The prices are fantastic. All our seafood was less than $50. I can’t recommend checking out this place enough!!!

The servers were nice and the restaurant was decorated well but the food was terrible. I got a really sad salad with some wilted and slightly brown greens and cheese thrown together. No veggies or croutons. The salmon pasta tasted like hungry man frozen dinner. It was very soggy and mushy. My friend didn’t like his sweet potatoes fries as they were burnt. They brought my friend the wrong order. Her fries were very bland. There is a very limited menu and they have no diet soda. I hope the food improves dramatically. I

I first want to say that I’m so sorry for not making a review sooner, I could’ve sworn I did. Anywho…. I’ve had SauSea’s multiple times now, and every experience has been a full 10/10, an 11/10 actually!
Their boils? Amazing! The best I’ve ever had. An explosion of flavor, the seafood is always fresh and the owner is the nicest person you’ll ever meet. I’m also a fan of the crab garlic bread and salad that I got complimentary.
Tonight, I went there pretty late at night. They were closing early, and my heart was broken, but the owner was so kind and offered to make us food anyway. I feel so guilty for making the crew stay late, but I’m kinda glad I did, because I now have a new thing to obsess over: fried catfish!
I’ve had a lottttt of fried catfish in my life from many different places, but SauSea’s, by far, has THE best catfish I’ve ever had. So seasoned, so light and crispy, so fresh… especially considering they stayed late for us, for it to be that good…just wow! The sweet potato fries and the sauce were also awesome, btw. But I will have to keep coming back again and again for that fried catfish! Went great with the sauce, but was also phenomenal without.
Not to mention, it’s always super nice and clean inside, the atmosphere has always been pleasant too. SauSea’s fan for life!

I just ordered $45 worth of food from your restaurant & picked it up. I ordered 1- 3 piece catfish with fries, I then ordered 2- 4 piece catfish baskets with fries & paid $1/piece for extra hushpuppies in addition to the fries. Instead I received 1 box with 3 pieces of fish & hushpuppies, 1 box with 3 pieces of fish & fries, 1 box of 4 pieces of fish with fries. We were shorted 1 piece of catfish & 1 order of fries. Adding extra hushpuppies does not make up for the price of catfish I spent! This is our first time ordering from your restaurant & you couldn’t even fulfill the order or provide a refund. Please correct this! I do not recommend going here and wasting your money.

Ate here this Saturday afternoon and I’ve never had better seafood, the price for what you get is amazing the food is delicious, the atmosphere is amazing. The chef himself came out and talked to every table about their experience. The new garlic cheese bread they have with the creamy crab sauce that’s complementary is to die for! We got the alligator bites and they were huge pieces! Again excellent price for the wonderful quality they are serving!! I can’t wait to go back soon!! This is the type of business we need more of, treated like family from the moment we walked in! ❤️

We had INCREDIBLE food at SauSeas Seafood in Carbondale, IL!! James the owner was so nice and we had a great time hearing his story; a story of resilience, hard work, and all glory to God. The food was amazing!! The salad dressings and various sauces were so flavorful. Highly highly recommend!

We really wanted to give this place 5 stars. We were excited to finally have a great fish restaurant. The atmosphere was perfect and smelled great. When we went there, it must have been a rough night, but that made for a really awful experience. I will forgive a stressed staff, but it seemed to show systematic issues. Most glaringly, the portions were made smaller than they had to be. When you order a “basket” here, expect an appetizer not a dinner. I will admit, I ordered the 6 shrimp instead of 8, yet on my bowl were 5 shrimp from this already small portion. Likewise, there was only one waitress on a friday night and because the work, she forgot to refill our tea. I would suggest having more help, more honest portions (even if it is more expensive,) and preparation. Looking forward to a better experience in the future.

First time eating here. They were short staffed but it was well worth the wait!
We tore down on some all you can eat crab legs. Even the corn and potatoes were delicious. Better than any seafood place I’ve been too. Our waitress was kind and patient as she kept our refills up. Hard working young lady with a heck of a good cook! 10/10 any day
