Chalkboard Cafe is a bit of a hidden gem in Seaside. It is a few doors down on the walk by the creek. We recently went there for breakfast on a rainy morning when there were few people out. You have some nice views of the creek and docks from the window on most days, but because of cold outside and warm inside, the windows were fogged up. The dinner is small and a little cramped; other would call it “intimate.” There is only seating for about 12 total inside, though there are some tables outside too. It is decorated with live plants and tchotchkes in a very surf-60s vibe. There are plenty of things to look at and talk about while you are eating. We had friendly service from our hostess and superb meals from our cook. I had the quiche special with bottomless coffee (which was also good), while others in my party had eggs Benedict, breakfast biscuits and gravy, and egg scramble. The meals were served hot and were all excellent. The prices were reasonable too. We will definitely come back to Chalkboard the next time we are in Seaside.

So overdue from October 2025! Hidden gem! What a heartbreak….that is right ..heartbreaking dissappointment when we went to have our last breakfast and they were closed unexpectedly. We were caught like a fish in the off season tourist sea by lovely lady named Ashley on our walk over the older bridge leading to the main seaside tourist promenade. It was off season and there were few people strolling the city.Ashley was sweet and very tactful on how she approached us on a cold call to bring customers in their cafe. She is worth every penny and more . It’s unfortunate that this place is not right on the promenade as it’s hard to notice and sift through all the bullshit restaurants up in your face that are overpriced and over hyped. They had the most reasonable prices in the area for what they offer. Honestly I think they can charge extra for the gluten free options and even raise their regular prices for a buck from what they have now .The second she said their food is locally sourced and they have gluten free options she got me. Everything is made with love in this place…. You feel it with every bite. The biscuits were delicious and were melting in your mouth, the meat was perfectly seasoned and everything else tasted like nothing I had before . It was not just good quality food , it was food that you wanted to keep coming back for. We had breakfast every day expect the day they closed … And we already established that I was heartbroken.

Genuinely one of the best cafés I have ever visited. Fairly small and somewhat hidden in the downtown area, though it has garnered a good reputation for its service and food. We quickly got a two-person table even on the morning of Valentine’s Day. One of the most special aspects about this restaurant is that they have chalk at most of the tables so that guests can create their own art while waiting for food, and my partner and I definitely took advantage of that. It’s a unique and immersive yet simple experience and I wish more restaurants had something like this. Not only that, but the food we ordered was absolutely fantastic. Some of the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had at a restaurant, with tasty potatoes and bacon too. They offer homemade biscuits which are pretty filling. Overall an awesome place and I’d love to revisit next time we are at the coast, maybe to try their lunch menu.

I definitely recommend stopping and eating here at this little hole in the wall gem! It’s just a little walk off of the main drag downtown and sits right by the creek, which gives you some nice views. Great food and fantastic atmosphere. The owner was really nice – me and my SO split the philly breakfast (delicious)and he served it on 2 separate plates evenly divided without us even asking. You can draw and write with chalk on all the tables which makes the experience even more fun and memorable. We will be back next time we are in the area! The bloody marys were fantastic as well.

I tried to go to a nearby bakery, but they were closed contrary to the hours listed on Google.
So, looking at nearby options I saw that Chalkboard Cafe had some baked goods.
I’m glad I went! The place was busy, on a morning where most things on Broadway were closed. The atmosphere was great, cozy/busy cafe vibes. They greeted my little dog with a head scratch, which is very welcoming, and I ordered a couple baked goods to go.
I’d come back just for the atmosphere and friendly staff, but even without that, I’m going back for more bakery items, and the rest of the food looks pretty good! (That pastry was still warm from the oven. Sooooo good!)

This place goes on the list! We walked in at 8:30am on a Saturday to find the place about 1/4 full. We were seated quickly and heard the specials, one of which was just what my wife was looking for; a fresh quiche. She ordered the asparagus and crab quiche and I had the breakfast bowl (potatoes, onions, peppers and your choice of protein, along with optional cheese and additional items like mushrooms or jalapeños).

Our waitress immediately called to the back to let them know she was having the quiche – I guess that was to ensure it was served hot. In all, service took a little over 10 minutes. Food was served hot and she followed up immediately with a selection of hot sauces when asked.

Food was very tasty indeed. The breakfast bowl was a little more than I thought I’d be able to eat, but I ate every bite. My wife’s quiche was also delicious (I tried a bite). Afterward, we had a Marionberry pastry, which was also very good, although the crust was a little soggy.

We keep a list of places on the North coast where we meet friends for breakfast. This is a definite addition. The food was a notch above most breakfast spots without being pretentious and it was tasty and affordable to boot. The staff was attentive without being overwhelming. All in all, we left well satisfied and we’ll share our recommendation with friends. Looking forward to our next visit!

So good! The gluten free naan was a nice substitute base for the eggs benedict. They had a special for salmon patties, which was great. Very cute inside and great service from the server and chef.

WOW! This place is AMAZING! My boyfriend I can in today visiting from Portland, and we’re delighted to stumble across Chalkboard Cafe. I’m gluten free which can make eating (especially breakfast) difficult, but this place had AMAZING gluten free options. Their gluten free biscuits were incredible. Not dry at all like most gluten free breads. The service was incredible – both servers were so kind, and even the chef came out and said hello to us, asking us how we liked our food. We were offered a free dessert for moving tables to make room for a big group that came in (a lemon bar I believe?) and it was AMAZING! Best lemon bar I’ve ever had. Not to mention, their tables are literally chalk boards that you can draw on while you wait for your food! I’m so happy we stumbled upon Chalkboard Cafe – we will DEFINITELY be back asap!

I tried the breakfast Philly. Was incredibly good, have never had anything like it. I saw other orders and everything looked great with plates cleaned. Will be my go to spot when I’m in seaside.

The staff were also very friendly. I also noticed a several local regulars which also confirms how friendly the staff are and how good the food is.

This is the breakfast spot you’re looking for. Cozy, extremely friendly staff, and super tasty food! I had the Philly breakfast sandwich with kielbasa and took half home because it was a very healthy portion. The peppers and onions were cooked perfectly. My partner had the redneck Benedict and said it was the best Bennie he’s ever had. The eggs were huge and so perfectly oozy.
It’s a very small space with some outdoor seating.
