Reviews
The dishes lacked the rich, bold flavours we typically expect from Thai cuisine. Most of the sauces tasted quite plain, with an overwhelming presence of soy sauce and very little depth of flavour. For a Saturday night, we expected the kitchen to be at its best, but unfortunately, the meal didn’t meet our expectations.
There’s definitely a lot of room for improvement, especially in terms of flavour and authenticity. We hope the team can elevate the taste to match the otherwise pleasant dining experience. For now, we’re unlikely to return soon, but we may consider giving it another try in the future if improvements are made.
Aramis was our host however all staff chipped in, the food, the food was amazing, great portion size, went for the Wild Spice, it wasn’t to spicy either but the taste was there for sure.
Will I be back? If I didn’t come back, I’d be stupid! Place overall looks amazing and a great colour scheme inside as well!
We went back again a few months back and while the atmosphere was really nice and friendly there was a mess up with our order. There are places like Thai Express and Wagamama where the food comes out whenever it is ready meaning dishes come out at different places. We both ordered Pad Thai but they said that the first dish was the satay which I ordered a spicy dish. Ate it and while it was nice it was not as hot as I was expecting. When the regular chicken pad Thai Came out it was super spicy and my poor wife couldn’t eat it (I had finished mine by the time hers came out.) We explained the mix up the provided another meal but it was the same spicy dish. At this point we asked for the refund of just the second meal but “as the manager is not on site” they could not issue a refund which was upsetting.
Fast forward to yesterday. We’ve parked in Cabot Circus and arrived hungry. As we turn the corner where you are greeted by the food spots my wife asks if we can take another punt as our experiences have been 1-1 so this visit would make or break whether we ever come back.
There were no tables outside so they asked if we’d be happy to sit “outside”. Opposite the main restaurant their outside area is actually fully enclosed with heating on too so it was very warm and cosy in there. Much better than sitting outside of nandos, slim chickens or wagamamas especially when it is cold!
We were seated really quickly before being welcomed by Will who gave us some time to decide what we wanted before taking our orders. My wife went for the old reliable her chicken pad thai but mild this time round. In order to guarantee no mix up I ordered a sweet and sour chicken dish with rice and a cheeky cocktail (rumjai rainbow) to wash it down.
Food came and before I could get the obligatory shot of the Pad Thai it was already being eaten my wife does not eat very fast and by the time my dish was ready she had almost finished eating (we like our food hot so we always encourage the other to have their food when it arrives as opposed to waiting).
Both dishes were very enjoyable, personally I prefer my cocktails without petals but understand that’s the aesthetic they chose so accepted it all the same. Regarding my dish I would have potentially like a bit more chicken in the dish considering the price but that did not take away from the flavour. There are other reviews that mentioned a lack of flavour or depth beyond soy sauce, after visitnng 3 times I question if this was dependent on the chef at that time.
While the staff have always been really great, super friendly and engaging in conversation every visit it is a shame that the culinary experience isn’t always consistent. I’m sure we will be back in the future as my wife really likes it but I don’t know if this would be my first suggestion for a meal out.
Definitely would recommend dining here, if you love Thai Food!
We went to Thai Express Kitchen around 11 a.m. and were absolutely blown away. The food was extraordinary. The menu is simple and super easy to understand — no fuss, just great choices.
I tried the green curry for the first time, and let me tell you… it was out of this world! Easily the best Thai food I’ve ever had in my life. The drinks were also fantastic — refreshing and full of flavor.
Special shoutout to the staff — especially Will, who was serving us. He was top-notch: friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better.
The only small downside is that it’s a cashless place, so you’ll need to pay by card. But honestly, that’s a minor thing compared to how incredible everything else was.
I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
