Arden Restaurant – Eater Portland
Reviews
Foie gras: very pretty plating. However. The foie gras itself was extremely salty. The pickled mustard seeds were basically flavorless. The mango puree was too sweet. When pairing all together, you get flavors that conflict each other, not complementing. I feel bad for the duck/goose that died for this dish.
Roasted squash: the squash itself was not seasoned, pairing with chili oil is weird for me personally. The mushroom was also plain to taste.
The burrata: the plate looks colorful and busy. I’m not sure how they intend for people to eat this, because the permissions are chucked not sliced. The texture of the persimmons and pomegranate easily over power the burrata. And the sweetness of these fruit does not go well with burrata, as they make it overly creamy.
Goat cheese gnocchi: the gnocchi is nice and soft. However this dish is soaked in oil which makes it unappetizing. The excessive chives added an unpleasant pungent taste.
Rainbow trout with burned mushroom: this dish really is the final nail on the coffin. Granted, the fish was seared well with crispy skin and soft inside. However, the mushrooms were downright burned. We have no idea what’s going on with the soft boiled egg and fish roe. Nothing on the plate was seasoned, I guess you are suppose to eat with the sauce, the the sauce does not have good flavor either. Honestly, we didn’t feel very good after this dish.
We will not come back and will not recommend people to this restaurant for dinner. The atmosphere was nice, the service was ok – no one really checked in with us on how things were going. We learned that wine is their thing so maybe it’s a good place for wine tasting with light snacks. Just stay away from the food.
You need to make sure you reserve your table prior coming, it’s a small restaurant with load of workers so you never wait for anything. Your glasses always full with water or wine, you never wait for another dish, they are excellent on keeping you entertained, informed about mane! It’s another level restaurant, food, and service. Reminds me Europe experience. Not for mediocre crowds. Those people that gave one star, they obviously have no idea what they are talking about. Nitch was absolutely exceptional. Thank you for the best experience in Portland.
Nearly perfect meal; only mistake was a forgotten order, but food arrived so quickly that it was minor in the end. Fun to sit at the counter and watch the kitchen team, everyone looked very comfortable and nothing ever sat at the pass.
Wine recommendation well received, was never left alone for long, and I still can’t stop thinking about the sensational squash sage pomegranate gnocchi.
Will definitely be back.
The prix fixe menu and wine pairing are the way to go, for sure. Amazing value!
I will say that while many seem to commend the wines, I felt that the wines for the pairing were fine but nothing to write home about. Maybe I was just saturated after several days of travel, maybe I’ll find out next time life takes me to Portland.
Service was attentive and friendly, but them wearing masks (no judgement here) and with the background music and noise it was sometimes hard to understand them.
