Makitto Sushi completely exceeded my expectations. We tried a few rolls and every single bite was packed with flavor. The Birdgang roll had this amazing zing to it—so good I didn’t even touch the soy sauce. The Fire Dragon roll had just the right amount of heat, and the eel sauce balanced it perfectly.
The real surprise for me was the sashimi. I rarely order sashimi because it usually tastes too fishy, but the fish here was on a whole different level of fresh. The bluefin sashimi literally melted in my mouth, the yellowtail was super light and clean, and the salmon nigiri was buttery with zero fishy taste. Absolute perfection.
We sat at the bar and talked with Jay, the owner and chef, and he made the whole experience even better. He’s friendly, passionate about what he does, and the service overall was fast and welcoming.
Already planning my next visit. If you’re anywhere near here, you need to try Makitto. Highly recommend!

We have been with Jay as our favorite sushi chef for over 12 years! Best in AZ.. Fresh delicious fish. Family owned, great service.

This has been my go-to sushi spot for over 5 years. Every visit is a mind-blowing experience. The chef is incredibly selective with his ingredients, often sourcing rare seasonal cuts that most places don’t carry like this Ora Salmon(this is the best bite of fish I ever had lol) and Blue Fin toro. The quantity and freshness of the fish is the best you can get anywhere in AZ. I highly recommend ordering nigiri and sashimi from the menu board by the sushi bar, it contains the best cuts of fish.
The restaurant isn’t flashy like a lot of trendy sushi restaurants in the valley. Instead, the focus is on the quality of the food. The sushi chef is an expert in his craft and it’s such a joy to watch him work. You can tell he takes immense pride in every piece he serves.

Love this place! Servers always so friendly, food is always delicious and the lunch specials are priced really fairly in my opinion. We tend to eat a lot so our bill is on the higher end. Out of all the sushi places we’ve been to this is our favorite! Plus their holiday acholic drinks are delish. Always recommend but be aware it is a small place so on a busy night anything more than 4 I’d call Ahead to make sure they can accommodate you.

One of the best sushi experiences I’ve had since I moved to Mesa. I don’t think I need even say anymore. It was just so good the wait staff was nice even the smell when you walk in smell like a clean sushi restaurant, and has everything that you want like a fresh bowl of miso soup. It was awesome, definitely go but know that it’s like a neighborhood sushi bar

The best Sushi spot I have been to in Mesa by far! The fish was fresh and flavorful, I’m from LA and so I’m stickler for fresh fish and man do these guys deliver. My server Edson was amazing and very attentive! Again, the Sushi was phenomenal and they have great seasonal selections. If you don’t try this place out you are being very disrespectful to your taste buds . I definitely recommend that you try this place out!

Wow!! The sushi was fantastic and the server was spot on. We went for a friends birthday dinner and did the chef’s special as well as lots of rolls. Every single item was delicious. They don’t serve alcohol right now as they are waiting for their liquor license but the food was so fantastic I can’t wait to come back.

I usually save my five stars for the best ever, and this isn’t the best place in town for sushi, but it is very very good for what it is. Reasonable price, superior rolls and nigiri, and awesome staff. The salad dressing was exceptional. Presentation shows real care, and the fish tasted fresh. Salmon nicely striped. Fresh wasabi offered.

TOTALLY WORTH IT!
Stopped by for a weekday lunch, got the lunch special – SOO GLAD I DID!
Service – fantastic. My waiter made always made sure my drinks were full and that I was getting everything I needed. He did so without being intrusive, and I appreciated that 🙂
Decor – decent, strip mall style.
Food – SUPER impressed! Lunch combo came with a miso soup and a salad that I usually don’t eat, but this salad was pretty good. I got the lunch sushi combo 1, upgraded to the blue fin tuna, and ordered a side of ikura nigiri.
Ikura is salmon roe (eggs), they look like the little eggs from Finding Nemo :-P. The sushi was very fresh and flavorful, presentation was beautiful, portions were large and filling.
Definitely would come back again for lunch!
