I don’t know what they did. Either they changed the cook or they need more training because this place is super inconsistent. Feels like they just put the wings but in a sauce bowl and shake it up instead of making sure it is properly glazed. The only consistent thing they have been good at recently is not Saucing the wings right. I prefer Bonchon’s flavors over bb.q. And The only issue I have recently is the past three times I’ve been here, the wings are not sauced properly. In fact, they literally advertise their wings being painted and brushed with soy garlic in the picture yet many pictures from the reviews you can clearly see the Patches of no sauce. I also included a picture of a well sauced Bonchon from this exact same place. Also, the chicken has been dry. I’ve eaten inside and have taken it to go. They probably changed their cook so better train them because I will come Just to see if it’s done right.

First time here, visiting with my kids for my daughter’s graduation. Ordered the spicy chicken tacos, which were really good. Also got boneless chicken and chicken tenders. Their seasoned fries are a must have. Good portion sizes. I left feeling full. Will definitely go check out their San Diego location when I get home. Their staff was very friendly. We didn’t wait very long for our food and it came out hot and fresh. Thanks for a great experience!

I remember visiting other Bonchon locations and getting full-sized chicken strips, but here, they cut them into much smaller pieces—more like chicken nuggets size. It was pretty disappointing. The kimchi was also subpar compared to other locations, looks like it was frozen previously and the drinks are noticeably small despite being priced the same as at other establishments that offer much bigger sizes.

Service was great though.

I have been going here ever since it opened.  It is a little pricey but so worth it.   When you walk in the place is pretty big and clean.  You are greeted right away upon walking in.   This time around, we ordered online for pick up and ordered a few items we haven’t tried.

We ordered:

1.  Bulgogi fries – I was surprised how good it was.   I wasn’t expecting much since they are known for their chicken.

2. Potstickers – Crunchy and soft in the middle. I love how they drizzle the sauce on top.

3.   Popcorn shrimp – of course, the shrimp was not the biggest, but it was so addictive. Something about the batter being crunchy and chewy, once you eat one, you can’t stop.

4.   House fried rice (bulgogi) – very flavorful, but the rice was a little too sticky to my liking and a little too sweet.

5.  Korean Fried Chicken with soy glaze – Alwaus got you smacking. It’s so crunchy and not overly saucey. This goes great with the pickled radish.

6.   Korean donuts – I don’t know why, but I had high expectations.  I was disappointed.  It was just a regular sugar doughnut. I was expecting it to be chewier, like with rice flour.  If you’re thinking about it,  don’t bother. It’s not worth the price.

Overall,  you can never go wrong with going here.

Ordered 10 wings + 2 drums instead of getting all these, I received all dumb drums . I found out when I received my meal I instantly called them the way they resolved this situation is telling me to go back the store to pick up the food they will remake it. Excuse me, is wasting my times, gas and money. I don’t want the order to be remake because it takes me 20 mins to drive to the store and 20 mins to drive back home. The lady that answered the phone only knows to apologize not to fixing this issue. Worst attitude ever and arguing with customers that isn’t their problem, I should have check my order before leaving the store??? That’s the way that bonchon ssf worker solve problems. The manager or owner of this store please solve this issue immediately.

Updated 1/12/2026: Bonchon was empty at 8:30pm on a Monday. There was a delay of 10+ minutes past the ETA time from my Internet order. The yangnyeom chicken 9 piece $16 looked soggy inside of the paper box container. Other fried chicken restaurants have holes in the container so the chicken stays crispy. Surprisingly it was still a bit crunchy when I ate it. My house is only 10 minutes away. This is my first time trying their yangnyeom flavor. It is supposed to be sweet and spicy. It was only sweet and the spiciness was not present. This goes well with beer. There’s hints of soy and garlic in the sauce. I would order this again but best enjoyed in the restaurant to retain the crispiness.

The omurice $14 was meh. I don’t think they know what an omurice is. Bonchon’s version is fried rice with an egg on top. It is supposed to be an omelette with fried rice inside. It does take some skills to create this dish correctly with the thinness of the egg sheet and obviously not present at this location. The fried rice was a bit soggy. This needs improvement. My suggestion would be to have different options for this dish and make it correctly as an omelette dish. How about adding a demi-glace or white sauce option to make it more Asian? Yellow basmati or orange taco rice would be great too. Bonchon would be printing money if they had that.

Updated review 8/8/2023: My friend told me about the new “Korean BBQ” flavor at Bonchon and I came over to try it. It was delicious. Since it was just me this time, I only ordered the small combo (6 wings, 3 drumsticks) $16.55. It was sweet with a hint of BBQ flavor. There’s something special about that signature Bonchon crunch, made from overly thick batter. Surprisingly, there weren’t any weird oil aftertaste that linger after eating a meal accustomed with oily fried foods. I did drink a lot of water though. Well done staff at Bonchon. Again. I do love their fried chicken.
Original review: 8:45pm on a Friday night. The chicken crispiness varies by Bonchon locations. This one ranks in the middle. My friends say the downtown SF location is the crispiest. We ate at the restaurant so, it is not due to to-go lead time. I never knew Bonchon had table service. We usually ordered to-go or eat outside at their San Mateo location. We started with a large soju $20 and a blue moon beer $5.50. Most of the soju favors were out so we resorted to mango. The soju was not strong and contained mostly juice. The wait time goes by faster because there are TV’s and alcohol. For the starters, we got the popcorn shrimp $12.75 and zucchini fries $8.55. These were OK. They weren’t flavorful. I would have preferred some popcorn chicken from Quickly’s but they were not taking orders after 8:30pm. For the main dish, we ordered medium combo half and half $30. We asked for extra spicy and Bonchon did not disappoint. The fried chicken was great. So crispy! Some of the soy garlic chicken was too salty though. Service was alright. This meal put big smiles across our faces 🙂

It’s good extra crispy chicken with nice meat to bone portions. I tasted no seasoning on the classic crunch. The Korean BBQ was good as was the soy garlic also. I’m not into hot & spicy but I can probably be brave to take on the Yangnyeom flavor well. Coleslaw lacked flavor. So far I liked the chicken, the sides uhmm. Not a craving type place but a good choice for chicken. Dress warm they really utilize the a/c there that can chill your food while dining.

Quite a busy spot with a diverse crowd united by love of Korean fried chicken. The service was quite good, fast and courteous.

Had the small combo with half spicy and half garlic soy. The drumsticks varied in size quite a bit, some were truly enormous. The crispy outer coating did an excellent job of sealing in the juiciness of the meat. Both sauces were tasty though I preferred the spicy one.

Also had an order of the pork belly buns… Very Americanized flavor, not savory enough to balance out the sweetness. Plus the buns were cold and a bit unpleasant.

Good for an occasional hankering for KFC, the other options I’ll take a pass in the future.

Awesome food! I’m not sure what magic they put into their chicken but its crispy and seasoned so uniquely that I think its the most delicious chicken I’ve ever had. We ordered the promo platter for under $18 and it came with more crispy, tasty chicken than we could finish. Friendly service and a cozy atmosphere.
