I came alone and felt very comfortable. Staff was incredible and so was the cocktail!
I really enjoyed the music and the atmosphere, it was busy and lively.
Every dish was delicious and thoughtfully prepared huge kudos to the chef for such creativity and flavor:)
The variety of the menu, the super friendly staff, and the vibrant, fun ambiance made the whole evening unforgettable.
I especially loved the personal touch of choosing a vinyl song to be played such a cool and unique experience!!
To begin with, this place scores high in the vibes category. It has record in the name, so good music is a given. (Though don’t expect to hold a conversation… it’s very very loud.) The walls are papered with a cool and actually hilarious wine-focused manga.
We sat upstairs, in the cocktail bar, which was a mistake—stick to the omakase downstairs. Still, the food we ate was quite good and wholly unique. Unami-spicy-sweet popcorn, eaten with chopsticks, naturally, was delightful. A tuna tartare of sorts on a crunchy corn tortilla, with smoky roe scattered on top, was refreshing. Most delicious was the kanpachi crudo: the fish set atop a shiso leaf on a nori-covered rice cracker. It was innovative melange of flavor and texture—it sounds simple but was honestly unlike anything I’ve ever eaten.
The service was, unfortunately, rather lacking, and in general we were left hungry. But—glad to have tried this unique spot.
Yuzu sour is just gin and yuzu.
Square root is just whiskey and soda.
Such a let down
First impressions:
The entryway is extremely crowded, with no clear place to wait if your table isn’t ready (ours wasn’t). One employee—who appeared to be a manager—rudely asked us to step aside for other guests while actively blocking us from moving further inside. I think a more appropriate response would have been to direct us somewhere better. we eventually managed to move by the coats, which are further into the establishment. For first-time visitors, be aware that you’ll likely be standing around and crowding active tables during this process, which couldn’t have been pleasant for those guests either.
Atmosphere & vibe:
Once seated, the lighting was great and the music was on point. Some décor choices, however—like the manga panel wall—felt questionable. The idea itself isn’t bad, but some of the panel content felt out of place. Our corner table also made it difficult to hear our server when she couldn’t get close due to neighboring tables. The space is small, so this is understandable, but it leads directly into the biggest issue.
Service:
Abysmal. No wonder our table wasn’t ready. We came for two drinks and light bites—an easy, quick visit and table flip—but left feeling like our time was stolen. We knew what we wanted when we sat down, having reviewed the menu while waiting, but our server rushed off immediately after asking for our water preference. That alone wouldn’t have been an issue, except that no one checked on us after our first round arrived, making her inattentiveness apparent. We finished everything and waited a long time just to order a second drink, to the point where we considered asking for the check instead because we weren’t sure we’d see our server again. Unfortunately, ordering another round was a mistake—it took just as long. We eventually had to flag down another employee to get the check, and even then waited an unreasonable amount of time.
I don’t remember our server’s name (and honestly, I’m glad). I’m not convinced this was entirely her fault. she was constantly running between the omakase floor and upstairs. This could have been avoided with one dedicated server for the top floor, which seemed very manageable. Instead, we ended up “out of sight, out of mind.” Regardless, this level of service is unacceptable, especially at a place charging $20+ for a mediocre cocktail.
Food & drinks:
Just okay. Completely unremarkable, and that
really says it all. Only one of the four cocktails we tried was worth the price. We definitely want to come back to try the omokase menu downstairs. However, if the upstairs is meant to hint at a good experience it did no such thing.
The food is very good and creative. A lot of fresh ingredients and nut creams made for a refreshing yet filling meal. My favorite was an early dish which was crudo with, I believe, a jalapeño sorbet and cashew cream.
I didn’t love the cocktails as they were all very alcohol forward, and I don’t think they paired well with any of the dishes. I’ll probably get sake next time.
