My overall description is that Art & Alma’s is decent dining in a historic building with plenty of charm. In supper club style, old photos, relics and taxidermy adorn the walls. We got really good service at the table in their small-ish dining room. Three of us had steaks & the stuffed pork chop. My opinion? All slightly overcooked. But good. The potatoes weren’t as hot as they should be. The steaks and chops came with a trip to the shabby small salad bar. The big side of sautéed mushrooms we had was delicious. So were the beignets we had for dessert.

Art and Alma’s was a great experience from start to finish. The steaks are clearly what this place does best. I ordered the filet medium, and it came out with a beautiful crust and incredible flavor. I never knew a filet could have so much flavor. It was cooked very well, though next time I would order it medium rare since I prefer a bit more pink in the center. That is purely personal preference, not a knock on the execution.
I have seen some reviews saying the salad bar is “wimpy,” and I honestly do not agree at all. There were multiple salad and side salad options, including pasta salad, coleslaw, and other fresh accompaniments. It felt classic and appropriate for a traditional supper club rather than trying to be trendy or oversized.
The atmosphere really adds to the experience. There is a rich history in both the dining room and the bar, and you can feel it the moment you walk in. It has that old school supper club charm that is hard to find in IL anyway. What a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. I would absolutely go back.

Finally made the trek to Art and Alma’s after hearing family tell us “how good” it was for years. Wow, what a mistake. We had a large party so we got to see and taste several things from the menu. To start, I’ve seen better salad bars at dive bars. The iceberg lettuce was browning and the options were very limited. The soup had so much salt that is was not edible. Now it really goes downhill from here. We got prime rib, ribeye’s and filet for proteins. The prime rib was flat out nasty. It smelled rancid and tasted even worse. 3 people in our group wouldn’t eat more than 2 bites. I can only surmise this is from an attempt to dry age (which the menu says nothing about), but I’ve had many dry aged steaks and that funk they got going on there is something else. The smell alone is nearly enough to gag you. The “ribeyes” weren’t even ribeyes or if they are they are choice at best and the spinalas were removed… no idea what cut these actually were but they were bad. They were cut thinner than a steak from sizzler, if your old enough to remember Sizzler. They were full of sinew and rubbery. Solid 6+ oz that were not edible. The Filet was the only steak that was “average”. Sides were also average. Overall, the service was fine, atmosphere is what youd expect from a place like this, salad bar establishes a very low expectation and the proteins bring all hope crashing down. I would not have been happy here at $25. per person, let alone nearly 100. Spend your valuable time and money someplace with quality food because unfortunately this isnt it.

Haven’t been since the new owners took over. Was so hoping for a great filet, they used to have prime beef, this was definitely choice.
My medium rare filet came medium well which I sent back, the mashed potatoes were cold including the bowls so we sent those back. My friend finished his rib eye steak cooked medium rare before my new steak came out, the potatoes became a third course. The salad bar was dissapointing as well, not much there. I had at least hoped for the old warm bread loaf but nope, two warm average rolls.
We arrived right at 2 PM on Sunday and there was one server/bartender who had to split his time between us, at our table in the back room, the bar and helping in the kitchen.
Sadly even the atmosphere in the back room was too bright and less cozy than the bar room.
All in all I won’t drive the hour to come back. In the old days we drove that hour weekly for great food, service and atmosphere.

Salad bar was ho-hum. No onions, no tomatoes??? Basic salad ingredients. My husband had the $50 prime rib and he liked it. I decided to order the $50 rib eye steak thinking we could each taste the other’s entree. For $50 I received a maybe 1/4th inch thick steak. It was large because it was the size of the platter. But it was tough and rubbery. Why I didn’t send it back is beyond me. I think I was in shock. The room is small and tables are close so maybe I was embarrassed. I’m not sure because it was soooo disappointing.
I expected a thick juicy steak.
$111.00 check before tip. Leftovers went in the garbage. How do you reheat a steak that thin?

If I could give it 10/5 I would with out any doubt. This is a Gem that I never had heard about till about 2 weeks ago. The staff was the most friendly I have seen in a long time.
Know the best part from century old decor to some of the best drinks you can get. The Old Fashion was perfect and they have a huge selection of specialty Bloody Mary’s!
The soup and salad bar was amazing with choices that you usually do not see anywhere. The soup was thick and filled with meat. They also have hot bacon dressing at the salad bar.
I had the 12 oz Filet the was done a perfect medium rare and I could cut it with a fork.My wife had the 24 oz Prime rib that was the best we have tasted in northern Illinois for years. I can’t wait to get back and try the Friday fish fry. The entry’s are very fair priced for the quality of food. I suggest you get there at 4:00 pm when they open since people were lined up at that time. Simply put a GREAT PLACE !!!

01/02/2026 Our first dinning out of the new year. Went and enjoyed the staff, great fried cheese curds, wonderful salad bar and good happy hour drink specials. We enjoy this place. Thank you!
12/5/25 We really enjoy the happy hour, staff, patrons and the salad bar. Try their version of cheese curd appetizer, it is surprisingly really good. We’ll see you at the bar between 4:00 and 6:00.
We love Jeff and all the staff here. The salad bar is really good. We mainly visit during happy hour to enjoy the half price salad bar and discounted drinks & appetizers. Prime beef sliders are pretty good, cheese curds were really good and the rib tips are hit and miss. But, when they hit, boy are they great. Either way, what a good place and a pleasant time with the staff and other patrons. Prices per person for happy hour food, drinks, tax and tip $30-50. Dine in dinner, drinks, tax and tip $50-100.

For $44 per 6-oz filet, I expected the quality this restaurant used to be known for. Instead, both steaks were overcooked and the baked potatoes arrived cold. Outback actually delivers a better meal for much less. Sad to say, the place just isn’t what it once was.

Won’t go to this restaurant again management was rude. Food was very expensive as we finished our meal paid and we’re waiting for one of our group to finish our wine. The manager asked us to get up from our table and go to the bar to finish our drinks. There was not one table in the restaurant that had people seated. So that was the worst comment ever we’ll never go back.

Oh boy. I’ve been wanting to go to this restaurant for quite a while since I moved to this area. They have some odd hours so I always seem to want to go when they weren’t open. I had an opportunity to go with a friend last night who actually grew up in Burlington, but hadn’t been to that restaurant in decades. First let me comment that the staff was very kind. When you walked in I noticed the temperature was very cold even though I had a jacket on. I did take a while for someone to come to our table because they didn’t know who’s table it was. The waitress was very apologetic. They also did adjust the air conditioning so it wasn’t so cold which was kind. I wanted some hot tea, they didn’t have any tea bags and stated that they could not make any hot beverages. I ordered a diet coke, it tasted funky and flat. I wanted to order some lobster pasta dish that I had my heart set on when they told me they didn’t have any lobster, and had been out for a while. I chose the expensive salmon plate. I won’t get into details but it was very disappointing. My friend ordered the pork chop dinner and garlic mashed potatoes. The pork chop was dry, and the mashed potatoes were instant. The salad bar was subpar. I really wanted to go there because I saw they had creme brulee. I passed on the desert because I didn’t want to be disappointed on the third course. We asked for to-go boxes but left both of them there. Unfortunately, neither one of us will never go back there again. It seems to be a staple in that town, which is fantastic. It was definitely busy for a Saturday night out. I’m just thinking that most of the patrons hadn’t ever really been to a fine dining good restaurant as the reviews are currently a 4.6. I wish them the best.
