Nevertheless, the owners have passion and heart. One of the owners, Tracy, gave their new pretzels to those seated at the bar to try. That was a very kind gesture. And they were delicious! My wife is a big fan. She says she may stop there just to pick up an order of those on the way home sometimes. Goob’s is off to a good start. I look forward to seeing how they develop. Check out my profile for more great eateries and craft cocktail bars. ✌
Honestly it’s a privilege to stumble into a place like this so early In its inception. Like being an early explorer in a fabled land of treasure.
I added pulled pork to my burger, just to give it try and it was melt in your mouth, the onion rings were perfect and I had a choice of 3 different kinds of ranch to dip them in.
There it is. The crux of the matter. I felt catered to. I felt like they bent over backwards to take care of me and they did it effortlessly.
It’s miles from nowhere. Might as well be on the other side of Mordor and this old Wizard is stiff and weary and pales at the thought of leaving his green shire, but I suppose some quests are worth it… and the burger might be one of them.
We opted for takeout, so some of my experience is a result of that. Not all take out is close to in house experience.
My wife and I liked the looks of the Carolina style pulled pork and the sticky funny bacon. Both seemed unique and we figured we would share. After placing the order at a quarter to nine, they said they were closing at nine, which contradicted to Google maps that said ten. Otherwise I wouldn’t have ordered that close to closing. They said it was fine and took the order. I found out later the kitchen closes but the bar is open another hour.
The staff was very friendly, and accommodating. No issues there at all.
In about fifteen minutes the food was ready and I went home about five minutes away.
Sat the dishes down, and opened them up. The containers were sturdy but not impossible to open, and they didn’t leak.
Our first comment was about the bacon. “$22 for that?” Only a few pieces of meat, and when you really looked, half of the pieces were nothing but fat… meaning zero meat! The meat we did have was either overcooked or sat too long, because it was hard and chewy. The sauce was good, which helped with the rice, which was without any flavor basically white rice without any seasoning. The vegetables were massive chunks of peppers a mushroom and a tomato. The ‘thing’ in the middle, I thought was a zucchini… it maybe was a half pickled in pepper something that I will avoid in the future.
As we grabbed the pulled pork out, the bottom bun was drenched. It’s takeout so I’m guessing in-house in might not have been. The pulled pork had a good flavor but I expected more of the BBQ sauce. If it was there, it wasn’t much.
The fries were soft and seemed undercooked yet they tasted burnt. Like maybe the fry oil needs replacing, and raise the fryer temp. There was zero seasoning on the fries, thankfully at home we could remedy that.
Overall, we were more impressed with the menu than the food they served. I will admit it was end of the day, and it was take out. So weigh my comments with that knowledge. Could have been a bad night, or just ended up with the end of day scraps.
Not sure if we will return. If we do… perhaps in house and earlier in the day. Hope this trip was an anomaly.
Overall, I was happy with my experience so I will be back. Going to cross my fingers by then that a cool drink menu will be developed. Goob’s would be a great date night/friends night location as they have ample space and seating with a nice bar and televisions. Would also be good to take the whole family as I heard they now offer a kids menu.
My coworker had the shrimp and grits. He loved it. He lives in the area and has found it hard to find a good grits dish. He devoured the whole thing and could have gone for another one.
I had the BBQ Burger. The meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce was not too sweet; which I prefer. The fries had a crispy outer edge yet soft on the inside.
We also tried the Avocado fries. A whole avocado sliced into 4 pieces, breaded, and fried. The avocado was still soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone who stops by this location. This was my first time having this particular dish and I was blown away.
The owners are very hands on and we got to meet Tracy multiple times as we enjoyed out experience. The care and effort they put into this location is reflected by the quality of food and the atmosphere. The tables are clean and the other staff are friendly.
I look forward to coming back to this location in the future. Highly recommend.
You could feel the dedication and passion from the staff and owners. They were checking on everyone, making sure things were running smoothly in the new environment. Great to see how much they care!
We will definitely be going back and supporting them. I hope to see a little kids menu in the future 🙂
I think with some more work, scrutiny, and evaluation by management, they could really be something for the area!
I loved everything about the shrimp and grits; the shrimp was cooked to perfection and the grits were so yummy that I had a hard time savoring my meal.
The same goes for the pulled pork sandwich; I loved the taste and texture of the pork and coleslaw but wished there was a little more of both as my sandwich was a little slim.
The Sticky Funny bacon was soooo yummy. My issues with the meal overall were:
– the rice was mushy (maybe overcooked and soaked up too much liquid)
– tasted like the rice was cooked in water and not chicken broth because there wasn’t much flavor.
– the broccoli was undercooked (needed another minute of steaming) and unseasoned (needed butter and garlic salt)
Overall, I recommend Goob’s Kitchen and can’t wait to try the Reuben, Red Beans and Rice, and the Irish Nachos!
